The Molybdenite Lake showing is located east of Molybdenite Lake, approximately 7 kilometres southeast of the Index (MINFILE 092JNE055) occurrence.
The area is underlain by hornfelsed sediments, argillite, quartzite and chert and volcanics, andesite breccia and greenstone tuff of the Mississippian to Jurassic Bridge River Complex (Group).
Locally, resistant, orange weathering quartz and carbonate vein(s) have been identified due east of Molybdenite Lake. The contact between dark grey meta-mudstone and ultramafic rocks is steep, south dipping and essentially parallel to the slope. The yellow and orange alteration along the contact suggests the presence of listwanite (Fe-carbonate). The zone of alteration is at least 200 metres long and several meters wide.
In 2008, sampling of the showing returned up to 0.315 per cent molybdenum (Assessment Report 30875).
Work History
The area was first explored in the early 1890’s.
In 1977 and 1983, Kerry Dawson and Associates completed programs of reconnaissance geological mapping and geochemical sampling on the area. This work identified three anomalous zones of tungsten values.
In 1986, Shanngri-La Minerals Ltd. examined the Molybdenite Creek occurrences and completed a program of geological mapping and rock sampling.
During 2007 through 2010, Galliard Resources Corp. examined the area as the Index and Enterprise properties. The showing was re-discovered in 2008 by Mike Miller during exploration of the OMG property. Shallow trenches are present from past workings of unknown age.
