The Gold Gossan 2 occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 1630 metres on a north-facing slope of Swakum Mountain.
The area is underlain by undivided volcanic rocks of the Western Volcanic facies of the Upper Triassic Nicola Group and fine clastic sedimentary rocks of the Lower to Middle Jurassic Ashcroft Formation, which have been intruded by Upper Triassic to Lower Jurassic dioritic rocks. At the northern end of the Gold Gossan 2 occurrence, a 15- to 35-centimetre wide zone of narrow quartz stringers is exposed on a small bluff of silicified and epidotized andesite of the Upper Triassic Nicola Group. The vein strikes west, dips 17 degrees to the north and carries masses of pyrite, chalcopyrite, galena and minor amounts of scheelite.
Approximately 100 metres to the south, underground workings intersect narrow stringers within sheared, pyritic andesitic country rock in a zone up to 60 centimetres wide. An aplite dike occurs in these workings.
Work History
Two historical adit/shafts, referred to as the North and South adits and likely dating to the late 1910s, are reported on the occurrence. Other adits/shafts are reported to the north-northwest of the previous two adits/shafts.
In 1969, Zulco Explorations Ltd. completed a 2.2 line-kilometre induced polarization survey on the area as the Alameada property.
In 1972, Adar Resources completed a 7.6 line-kilometre ground magnetic survey on the area immediately north and east of the occurrence as the LO claims. The following year, Adar Resources completed a program of diamond drilling, totalling 150 metres, percussion drilling, totalling 144 metres, soil sampling and ground magnetic and electromagnetic surveys on the Amigo, Lo and Old Alameada claims.
In 1979, the area immediately south of the occurrence was prospected by L. Trenholme as the Dartt 1-2 claims.
In 1980, G. D’Angelo completed a soil sampling program on the area as the Old Alameda claims. In 1981, Pacific Northwest Geotech Ltd. completed a soil sampling program on the area immediately west of the occurrence as the New Alameda claims. In 1988, International Corona Corp. completed a program of trenching and 11 diamond drill holes, totalling 800.1 metres, on the area immediately north of the occurrence as the Petrie property.
In 1993, Hera Resources completed four drillholes, totalling 568.2 metres, on geophysical targets in the Lucky Mike occurrence area. A drillhole (93-7), located approximately 400 metres to the northwest of the occurrence, intersected a narrow mineralized quartz vein yielding 5.4 per cent copper, 160 grams per tonne silver and 0.600 gram per tonne gold over 0.24 metre and porphyry style mineralization yielding 0.25 per cent copper, 8.7 grams per tonne silver and 0.260 gram per tonne gold over 2.46 metres (Assessment Report 24600).
In 1998, Ahura Mining Ltd. prospected and sampled the area immediately south of the occurrence as the How 1-10 claims. A rock sample (HOW-4) from the How 4 claim, located in the area of the occurrence, yielded 0.25 gram per tonne gold, 36.0 grams per tonne silver and 0.10 per cent copper (Assessment Report 25744).
The following year, a program of geological mapping, rock sampling and a 27.2 line-kilometre ground electromagnetic survey was completed on the claims. In 2000, Ahura Mining completed a program of geological mapping and geochemical (rock and soil) sampling on the How property. Two samples (SK-95A and -95B) of tailings from the South adit yielded 0.46 and 3.97 per cent copper, 20.7 and 130.2 grams per tonne silver with 0.225 and 0.972 gram per tonne gold, whereas a sample (SK-96) from a vein located at the entrance of the North adit yielded 0.57 per cent copper, 1.89 per cent lead, 0.32 per cent zinc, 125.4 grams per tonne silver and 50.83 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 26468).
In 2010 and 2012, Pan Andean Minerals Corp. completed programs of soil sampling on the area immediately east of the occurrence as the Dartt Lake claims.
During 2011 through 2016, Plate Resources Corp. completed programs of geological mapping, geochemical (rock and soil) sampling, airborne and ground geophysical surveys and diamond drilling on the area as apart of the Lucky Mike property.
