The Viking showing is located at an elevation of approximately 1500 metres on the west side of a small hill, south of Abbott Lake.

The area is underlain by the southern portion of the multistage Lower Jurassic Guichon Creek Batholith. In this area Chataway variety granodiorite is intruded by Bethlehem phase rocks, which vary in composition from granodiorite to granite. The area is underlain primarily by intrusive rocks that are transitional in texture and composition between those of the older Highland Valley phase and the younger Bethlehem phase.

Locally, chalcopyrite stringers and associated malachite occur in granitic rock.

Numerous other zones of copper mineralization are reported in area and include a zone located on the former White and Pendlebury claims located west of Gordon Lake and approximately 2.3 kilometres southeast of the Viking occurrence; the area east of Abbott Lake, approximately 700 metres north-northeast of the Viking occurrence and scattered outcrops on the K.C. claims extending up to approximately 4 kilometres to the north of the Viking occurrence and south of Skuhun Creek (Assessment Report 407, pg. 8).

Work History

A historical pit of unknown age is reported on the occurrence.

During 1958 through 1961, Kamloops Copper Consolidated completed programs of geological mapping and ground magnetometer surveys on the area as the Viking claim. In 1964 and 1965, Kamloops Copper Consolidated completed programs of soil sampling, geological mapping and ground magnetometer surveys on the area as the Syl claims.

In 1969, Torwest Resources completed a program of soil sampling and a 50.0 line-kilometre ground magnetic survey on the area as the Top property.

In 2000, Highland Valley Mines completed a 160.0 line-kilometre induced polarization survey was completed on the area immediately east of the occurrence as the Sku-Leo property.

In 2007 and 2008, Appleton Exploration completed programs of prospecting and soil sampling on the area as the Clapperton property.

In 2009, Christopher James Gold Corp. completed a program of rock, silt and soil sampling on the area as the Craigmont West property.

During late 2008 through 2012, Happy Creek Minerals completed programs of geochemical (rock, silt and soil) sampling, geological mapping, three diamond drill holes, totalling 740.9 metres, an induced polarization survey and a 1463.0 line-kilometre airborne gamma ray spectrometer and magnetic survey on the area as the West Valley and Abbott properties.

During 2013 through 2019, Happy Creek Minerals Ltd. completed programs of geological mapping, geochemical (rock, silt and soil) sampling, a 32.3 line-kilometre induced polarization survey and re-interpretation of historical airborne geophysical data on the area as part of the Rateria-West Valley property.
