The Sunset showing is located on the south east side of Galene Creek, approximately 3.2 kilometres west of the north end of Ross Lake.

The area is underlain by rocks of the Permian to Jurassic Hozameen Complex. These rocks, which include basalt, greenstone, mudstone, greywacke, limestone and chert, have been intruded by a large stock of very coarse-grained granodiorite.

Near the contact, the main showing occurs as an assemblage of skarn minerals replacing the hangingwall side of a limestone bed for a true width of 10.7 metres. Disseminated mineralization extends a further 1.5 metres toward the footwall of the limestone. Sphalerite, lesser chalcopyrite and minor galena are the principal ore minerals, and occur along with specular hematite (specularite), magnetite and pyrite in a lime silicate zone of garnet, quartz, epidote, actinolite and calcite. Light- brown limonite coats the entire surface exposure along with lesser amounts of malachite and white zinc oxide.

In 1967, samples from the main showing (42655 to 42665) yielded up to 0.94 gram per tonne gold, 74.9 grams per tonne silver, 1.55 per cent copper, 0.73 per cent lead and 23.6 per cent zinc; previous sampling, from 1966, is reported to have assayed up to 100.8 grams per tonne silver, 0.96 per cent copper, 0.70 per cent lead and 14.80 per cent zinc over 13.5 metres (Assessment Report 1195, page 6).

In 1972, the average values of 12 samples, over a true width of 12 metres, yielded 0.45 gram per tonne gold, 38.40 grams per tonne silver, 0.77 per cent copper, 0.33 per cent lead and 6.41 per cent zinc, while another sample across 1.5 metres yielded 0.94 gram per tonne gold, 91.7 grams per tonne silver, 1.60 per cent copper, 0.87 per cent lead, 20.38 per cent zinc and 0.14 per cent cadmium (Assessment Report 4719, page 6).

In 1929 and 1930, programs of surface trenching were completed and a 90-metre tunnel was driven below the main surface exposure. In 1967, Bomarc Mining completed a program rock and soil sampling, geological mapping and a 4.8 line-kilometre ground magnetic survey on the area as the Hope and Ann claims. In 1972, Fury Explorations completed a program of geological mapping, and rock and soil sampling on the area as the Ore and Ross claims.
