The Kit occurrence is exposed on the north bank of Quilchena Creek, approximately 2 kilometres east-northeast of the creek's confluence with Pothole Creek and 7.8 kilometres northeast of Aspen Grove.
The area is underlain by a small body of Upper Triassic to Lower Jurassic granodiorite that intrudes volcanics of the Upper Triassic Nicola Group. The granodiorite is cut by narrow, steeply dipping shears striking north and northeast, near the faulted contact with slightly pyritic Nicola Group greenstone to the northwest. The intrusive is also fractured to some extent, with one prominent set striking 055 to 070 degrees and dipping steeply southeast.
Localized mineralization in some of the graphitic shears contains quartz lenses 2.5 to 5 centimetres wide with minor disseminated molybdenite. Some of the fractures within the intrusive contain quartz with minor chalcopyrite, malachite and molybdenite.
Work History
The intrusive was first prospected for molybdenum by J.E. Bate in 1915.
In 1966, Marengo Mines Ltd. completed a 38.3 line-kilometre ground magnetic survey on the area as the Kit, Red and Vida claims. The following year, a 60-metre-long trench was excavated and two holes were drilled.
In late 1984 and early 1985, Laramide Resources Ltd. conducted reconnaissance geological, geochemical and magnetometer surveys on the property.
In 1986, Algo Resources Ltd. completed a program of geological mapping and 18.0 line-kilometres of magnetic and induced polarization surveys on the area as the Au 1-2 and Flim claims.
In 1992, Laramide Resources Ltd. conducted rock and soil sampling on the area as the Pot claims. A 1-metre chip sample of the shear zone yielded 0.050 per cent molybdenum, whereas a grab sample from a 0.3-metre-wide quartz vein yielded 0.160 per cent molybdenum (Assessment Report 22566).
In 1994, Fairfield Minerals Ltd. completed a soil sampling program of soil sampling on the claims.
In 2000, Commerce Resources Corp. completed a program of geological mapping and geochemical (rock and silt) sampling on the area as the Au property.
In 2002, Lateegra Resources Corp. and Commerce Resources Corp. completed a program of soil sampling, ground magnetic and electromagnetic surveying and six diamond drill holes, totalling 466.6 metres, on the area immediately east of the occurrence as the Au/Wen property.
In 2003, Previa Resources Ltd. completed a program of geological mapping and a 38.0 line-kilometre very low frequency electromagnetic, magnetometer and induced polarization survey on the area as the Pothole Lake property.
In 2005, Previa Resources Ltd. completed a very low frequency electromagnetic survey on an area including the Kit occurrence. The following year, a 5.0 line-kilometre ground electromagnetic survey was completed on the property. Results indicated four anomalous zones, including intersecting features potentially related to mineralization (Assessment Report 29155).
In 2007, Rose Marie Resources Ltd. (formerly known as Previa Resources Ltd.) conducted a 2.5 line-kilometre very low frequency electromagnetic survey on the Pothole Lake property. The following year, Cheetah Ventures Ltd. (formerly known as Rose Marie Resources Ltd.) completed a 5.0 line-kilometre very low frequency electromagnetic survey on the Pothole Lake property.
In 2010, Emperor Minerals Ltd. (formerly known as Cheetah Ventures Ltd.) completed a 6.0 line-kilometre very low frequency electromagnetic survey on the Pothole Lake property.
During 2013 through 2017, Victory Resources Corp. completed programs of prospecting, geological mapping, geochemical (rock, silt and soil) sampling and structural analysis on the area as the Wen-Toe and Toni properties.
In 2018, Cazador Resources Ltd. completed a program of prospecting, photogeological mapping and a 32.0 line-kilometre airborne magnetic survey on the area as a part of the Aspen Grove property.
