The Thalia occurrence is located approximately 1.2 kilometres south of the south end of Bluey Lake, 4.0 kilometres northwest of the north end of Missezula Lake.
The region north of Missezula Lake is underlain by the Eastern volcanic facies of the Upper Triassic Nicola Group, comprising mafic to intermediate augite and hornblende porphyritic pyroclastics and flows, and associated alkaline intrusions. The intrusions vary in composition from diorite to monzonite and are thought to be comagmatic with the Nicola Group, ranging in age from Upper Triassic to Lower Jurassic. Much of the copper mineralization and associated alteration frequenting this portion of the Nicola Belt can be attributed to the emplacement of such intrusions.
Erratic copper mineralization is hosted in fine-grained diorite/andesite porphyry and basalt of the Nicola Group (Central Belt, Bulletin 69) in an elongate area trending north-northwest for 1050 metres. Mineralization consists primarily of chalcocite and malachite along fractures and associated with calcite stringers. Pyrite and chalcopyrite are also present.
Locally, at least three zones of mineralization, referred to as sites D, C and B, have been identified. The strongest mineralization occurs in the most southerly exposures (Site D), where a caved adit and several pits expose chalcocite and malachite on fractures associated with west-trending calcite stringers in sheared andesite flows. A second zone of mineralization (Site C), located approximately 500 metres north-northwest of the adit, comprises outcrops and pits exposing malachite staining and minor chalcocite along west-trending fractures over a north-south distance of approximately 30 metres. A third zone of mineralization (Site B), located near the north end of the mineralized area, approximately 1000 metres north-northwest of the adit, comprises trenches exposing massive-pillowed andesite hosting scattered blebs and semi-massive lenses of chalcocite in small breccia zones and interstices between pillows.
In 1978, sampling of two trenches, located 30 metres apart, on the southern exposures (Site D) yielded 0.38 and 0.24 per cent copper over 15 and 10 metres, respectively, whereas a chip sample of mineralized boulders from the third zone (Site B) of mineralization yielded 2.6 per cent copper and 10.3 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 7165).
The following year, a vertical percussion hole (TPH-79-5), located adjacent to the two southern trenches (Site D) sampled the previous year, graded 0.14 per cent copper over 32.0 metres (7.6 to 39.6 metres down hole; Assessment Report 7724). Also at this time, analyses of three grab samples, taken approximately 480 metres north-northwest of the southern exposures at the second zone of mineralization (Site C), averaged 0.23 per cent copper, whereas a sample of brecciated red basalt with chalcocite, taken approximately 1000 metres north-northeast of the southern exposures at the third zone (Site B) of mineralization, assayed 10 grams per tonne silver and 2.6 per cent copper over 1 metre (Assessment Report 7724).
In 1985, a rock sample (B-2087) from the adit area (Site D) yielded 0.352 per cent copper, whereas samples (B-2090 and B-2092) from the second and third zones (Sites C and B) of mineralization yielded 0.157 and 0.730 per cent copper, respectively (Assessment Report 14141). Also at this time, a sample (B-2091) from a boulder located on the second zone of mineralization yielded 4.756 per cent copper and 33.9 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 14141).
In 1987, a rock sample (3871), taken several hundred metres south-southeast of the main (Site D) zone yielded 0.131 per cent copper (Assessment Report 17118).
In 2013, six representative trench and outcrop grab samples of mineralized diorite from the main Thalia (Site D) zone yielded from 0.012 to 0.932 per cent copper and up to 5.7 grams per tonne silver, whereas a sample (J486464) from the second zone of mineralization (Site C) yielded 0.350 per cent copper and two samples (M458562 and J486487) of plagioclase phyric volcanics hosting high-grade chalcocite veinlets, pods and disseminations located in the northern zone (Site B) of mineralization yielded 3.15 and 4.60 per cent copper with 13.7 and 21.0 grams per tonne silver, respectively (Assessment Report 34718).
Work History
A historical adit, likely dating to the early 1900s, was driven for approximately 9 to 12 metres on the southern end of the mineralized zone.
In 1972 and 1973, Noranda Exploration Company Ltd., completed programs of geological mapping, trenching, ground and airborne geophysical surveys and an unknown amount of drilling on the area as the Bim, Boss, J, Lo, Gail and Tight claim groups of the Adonis property. In 1976, a program of geological mapping and soil sampling was completed on the area as the Prize claims. In 1978 and 1979, Cominco Ltd. completed programs of geological mapping, geochemical (rock and soil) sampling, approximately 9.4 line-kilometres ground magnetic and induced polarization surveys and six percussion holes, totalling 277 metres, on the area as the Thalia claims.
In 1985, Vanco Explorations Ltd. completed a program of geological mapping and geochemical (rock and soil) sampling on the area as the Bloo, Climax and Thor claims. In 1987, a further program of rock and soil sampling was completed on the claims.
In 1990, Rayrock Yellowknife Resources Inc. and MineQuest Exploration Associated Ltd. completed a 56.2 line-kilometre induced polarization survey on the area as the Zig 1-4 and Zul 1-3 claims. The following year, nine rotary drill holes, totalling 650.7 metres, were completed on the claims.
In 2003, Gary Brown completed a 27.5 line-kilometre ground magnetic survey on the area immediately west of the occurrence as the Boss 1-2 claims. In 2004, William Richard Bergey completed reconnaissance geological mapping on the Aspen Grove property. Also at this time, Copper Hill Exploration Corp. completed a program of geological mapping and photo-geological interpretation on the area as the Ketchan property. In 2005, Copper Belt Resources Ltd. completed a program of geological mapping and 13.0 line-kilometres of ground magnetic and electromagnetic surveys on the area as the Central Nicola property.
In 2011, Moag Copper Gold Resources Inc. completed a program of soil sampling on the area as part of the Ketchan property.
In 2013, West Cirque Resources Ltd. acquired the Aspen Grove property, which consists of 37 mineral claims, totalling 5629 hectares, including the Thalia prospect, and proceeded to complete an exploration program of geological mapping and rock sampling throughout the property. During 2014 through 2016, KZD Aspen Grove Holding Ltd. and Kaizen Discovery Inc. completed programs of prospecting and geological mapping on the Aspen Grove property.
