The Nellie 28 occurrence outcrops in the steep canyon wall of a west-flowing tributary (Galois Creek) of Summers Creek, 700 metres east of the creek and 1.5 kilometres southeast of the south end of Missezula Lake.

Disseminated chalcopyrite and pyrite occur in a zone of intense alteration and fracturing between a felsic intrusive and massive, green volcanics of the Upper Triassic Nicola Group (Eastern Belt, Bulletin 69). The mineralized zone is 60 metres wide, trends 155 degrees and dips steep to 70 degrees east. The deposit exhibits abundant malachite and azurite staining.

In 1972, a grab sample (2581) of a large, angular talus boulder below the canyon wall assayed 1.24 per cent copper, whereas a grab sample (2580) from a small, cream-coloured, strongly altered outcrop with disseminated chalcopyrite and malachite assayed 0.42 per cent copper (Assessment Report 3955, page 11).

In 2018, a rock sample (D4) containing hematite, pyrite and malachite assayed 0.081 per cent copper and 0.029 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 37988).

Work History

In 1969, Pageant Mines Ltd. completed a program of soil sampling and a 386.0-line-kilometre airborne magnetic survey on the area as the OB and OC claims.

The occurrence was discovered in 1972 by Belcarra Explorations Ltd. during a program of prospecting and soil sampling. Shortly afterwards, Rio Tinto Canadian Exploration Ltd. completed magnetometer and induced polarization surveys over the occurrence later in 1972.

During 1979 through 1981, Newmont Exploration of Canada Ltd. held the area as the Prime, HG and MS claims and completed programs of geological mapping and geochemical (rock and soil) sampling on the claims. Also, during 1977 through 1984, Giant Piper Exploration Inc. (formerly Piper Petroleums Ltd.) completed programs of geological mapping, trenching, geochemical sampling and ground magnetic and electromagnetic surveys on the area as the Prime claims. In 1987, Consolidated Silver Butte Mines Ltd., on the behalf of Giant Piper Exploration Inc., completed a program of soil and rock sampling program on the Prime claims. Also in 1987, the area immediately south of the occurrence was re-staked by D.T. Mehner as the Man claims and a minor program of prospecting and geochemical (silt and soil) sampling was completed.

In 1997, Discovery Consultants completed a soil sampling program on the area as the Prime North property.

During 2007 through 2010, Candorado Operating Co. Ltd. completed programs of geological mapping, geochemical (soil and rock) sampling, a 56.1 line-kilometre ground magnetic and induced polarization survey and 35 diamond drill holes, totalling 6881.3 metres, on the area as the Prime/Man property.

In 2018, Rene Bernard completed a minor program of rock sampling on the area as the Man-Prime property.
