The Katanga (Bounty-Expo) occurrence is located on the east side of Pitt Lake, west of Isabel Lake and near a small unnamed northwest flowing tributary of Vickers Creek.
The area is underlain by granodioritic and quartz dioritic intrusive rocks of the Jurassic to Tertiary Coast Plutonic Complex.
Locally, north west-trending shear zones and felsic dikes, up to 6 metres wide, contain veins, lenses and disseminations of massive chalcopyrite, pyrite, pyrrhotite, arsenopyrite, bornite and sphalerite, up to 0.46 metre in width. These cut early Cretaceous quartz diorite, diorite, granodiorite and greenstone inclusions.
In 1926, a grab sample, from the face of a 20.4-metre long adit, assayed 4.2 per cent copper, 51.4 grams per tonne silver, trace zinc and trace gold (Minister of Mines Annual Report 1926, p. 324, Sample 5).
In 1968, a diamond drilling hole (No.2), located near the Lower adit, yielded 1.0 gram per tonne gold, 3.4 grams per tonne silver and 0.68 per cent copper over 81 centimetres (Property File - Kennedy Silver Mines Ltd. [1968-12-11]: Interim Geological Report - Preliminary Exploration of Bounty-Expo Copper Prospect - With Attached Diamond Drill Logs).
In 1969, a diamond drill hole (No.6), located near the Upper adit portal, yielded 0.5 gram per tonne gold, 10.9 grams per tonne silver and 0.49 per cent copper over 1.2 metres (Property File - Kennedy Silver Mines Ltd. [1969-11-01]: Diamond Drill Log - Bounty-Expo Prospect). Also at this time, a random grab sample (15617) of mineralization exposed in the adit yielded 1.5 grams per tonne gold, 53.0 grams per tonne silver and 1.00 per cent copper, whereas a 1.5 metre chip sample (15613) from a mineralized lens yielded 0.5 gram per tonne gold, 13.7 grams per tonne silver and 0.70 per cent copper (Property File - Kennedy Silver Mines Ltd. [1969-12-01]: Main Showings, South Prospect Zone - Bounty-Expo Copper Prospect).
In 1983, gold content was reported to range from 0.7 to 1.0 gram per tonne; however, some samples assayed as high as 62 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 13090, p. 5).
The occurrences were discovered by the Wagner brothers prior to or during the early 1920's, and the property was initially located as the four-claim Maple Leaf group. In 1929, 21 metres of underground tunnelling was completed on three tunnels (Upper, Middle and Lower). The tunnels are located at elevations from approximately 33 to 264 metres with trenches and/or open-cuts extending to 350 metres elevation. A cross-cut and drift are also reported on the Upper tunnel. Another tunnel, referred to as the White tunnel, is 24 metres long and is located approximately 1 kilometre to the north east.
In 1968 and 1969, Kennedy Silver Mines Ltd., conducted 252 metres of diamond drilling and 106 metres of trenching. In 1984, Black Swan Gold Mines prospected and sampled the area. The following year ground electromagnetic and magnetic surveys were completed. In 1988, Springfield Resources acquired the property.
