Capsule Geology

The Stellar occurrence is located on a small hill, approximately 1 kilometre west of Becher Lake.

The area is underlain by Upper Triassic Vancouver Group, Quatsino Formation limestone and calcareous shales overlain by Karmutsen Formation volcanics. These Karmutsen rocks consist of andesitic tuff, andesitic volcanic breccia and flows with interbeds of argillite, siltstone and limestone. Intruding the stratigraphy are plutonic rocks of the Jurassic Island Plutonic Suite. These plutonic rocks on Vancouver Island vary in composition from gabbro to quartz monzonite but are mainly granodiorite and quartz diorite.

The showing is associated with intrusions of a medium to coarse grained diorite with associated regions of coarse grained magnetic gabbro. These intrude a fine grained moderately silicified andesitic lava which is locally bleached and cut by epidote and calcite veins.

The mineralization occurs in a silicified-carbonate shear structure occurring within a 6 metre wide rusty orange zone. This structure is enveloped in a 10 to 15 metre wide zone of prominent chlorite/magnetite replacement occurring as kidney shapes and amoeboid blobs in the host rock. The zone is mineralized with massive to semi-massive pyrite plus or minus chalcopyrite and sphalerite. Associated with the sulphide mineralization is quartz and sericite. In 1987, sampling of high grade sulphide material yielded values up to 2.84 per cent copper, 16.4 grams per tonne silver, 3.24 per cent zinc and 7.12 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 17405).

In 1965, Gunnex Limited completed a program of geochemical sampling, geological mapping and ground magnetic and electromagnetic surveys on the area as the M and Thelma claims. In 1969, Georgia Mines completed an airborne magnetic survey on the area. In 1987 and 1989, M. Sawiuk completed programs of geological mapping, geochemical sampling and ground geophysical surveys the area as the Julia claim. In 1996 and 1998, A. Doiron completed programs of geological mapping and rock and soil sampling on the area as the Allana claims.
