The Independence occurrence is located on the west side of the Tahsis River, approximately 4.2 kilometres north of Tahsis.

The Independence occurrence is located in Upper Triassic Vancouver Group rocks comprised of Karmutsen Formation andesites and Quatsino Formation limestones. The mineralization occurs in two parallel steeply dipping west trending shear zones in chlorite-altered andesite.

The main shear zone varies in width from 2 metres to less than 30 centimetres and contains lenticular-shaped lenses of quartz, up to 60 centimetres wide, and variably mineralized with pyrite, chalcopyrite and sphalerite. Total sulphide content averages 5.0 per cent.

The shear zone was explored in the late 1930's by a 152 metre long adit. Eleven grab samples from the adit averaged 0.686 grams per tonne gold and 2.4 grams per tonne silver and the maximum value obtained was 6.6 grams per tonne gold. A surface sample from an undisclosed location assayed 40.4 grams per tonne gold and 16.1 grams per tonne silver (Geological Survey of Canada Memoir 272, page 55). In 1987, a grab sample from the portal area returned 18.1 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 16673, page 25).

The parallel North shear zone lies 200 metres north of the adit and hosts two separate 15 to 30 centimetre quartz veins. The veins are sparsely mineralized with pyrite and chalcopyrite which form selvages along vein walls. The zone is exposed for 10 metres. In 1987, a 1 metre channel sample assayed 1.2 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 16673, page 26).

In 1983, a sample from rhyolite in the area returned 1.8 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 12354, page 3).

The Independence claims were originally staked in 1938 by W, Elliot, W. Hamilton and G. Hatlow. Bralorne Mines optioned the claims and explored the showings with a series of open cuts and a 150 metre adit, prior to relinquishing the property in 1939. In 1983, P. Peto completed a program of rock, silt and soil sampling on the area. In 1987 North American Ventures completed a program of soil sampling and ground electromagnetic and magnetic surveys. In 2007, Grande Portage Resources completed a regional geochemical program on the area as the Cherry Property. In 2011, Gold Ridge Exploration completed a regional geochemical sampling program on the Tahsis Property.

In 2013, 2015 and 2016 Mammoth Geological Ltd. conducted geochemical and geological surveys on North Block (near the Independence) and South Block of the Tahsis property for Sojourn Ventures Inc. In 2017, Qualitas Holdings Corp. completed a minor program of rock sampling on the Tahsis property and Mammoth Geological Ltd. completed a NI43-101 Technical Report for the Tahsis property.
