The Jack Elliot claims are located on the south side of the Sombrio River, north of Jack Elliot Creek.

The area is underlain by phyllites and meta- greywacke of the Jurassic-Cretaceous Leach River Formation. These units have been intruded by a diorite stock and smaller diorite dykes. Regional, progressive, low-pressure green schist to amphibolite facies metamorphism and deformation has taken place.

Locally, greywacke and biotite schists, known as “zebra rock” occur. This material is being used in the landscaping industry and as flooring and counter top material.

In 2009, the claims were explored by Le Baron Prospecting, an old quarry, of unknown age, is present.
