The Luce limestone occurrence is located on the southern slope of Crowfoot Mountain Peak, approximately 6 kilometres north of the community of Magna Bay on the north arm of Shuswap Lake.
The area is underlain by a sequence of metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks of the Eagle Bay Formation, which contains the Cambrian-Devonian Tshinakin limestone.
Locally, thin- to medium-bedded, fine-grained, white limestone/marble, with light to medium grey streaks and beds that contain finely disseminated pyrite, thin laminated tan to brown weathering dolomitic streaks, and occasional brown weathering siliceous streaks occurs. The white limestone unit strikes 25 degrees east and dips from 15 to 35 degrees to the northwest.
Between 1991 and 1994, Industrial Filler Limited completed programs of geological mapping, rock sampling and minor drilling. Sampling and drilling indicated that the white marble is interbedded with off-colour and grey marble and contains a variable purity with the "best" quality limestone extending for a distance of approximately 200 metres and approximately 65 metres thick. Testing of samples returned brightness ranges from 85 to as high as 94. Calcium carbonate, ranges from 91 per cent to greater than 98 per cent. Acid insols range from 0.2 per cent to 7.3 per cent, but are generally less than 2 per cent in most samples. Magnesium carbonate is also variable ranging from 0.6 per cent to as much as 6.3 per cent (Assessment Report 23488).
