Capsule Geology

The Tadpole (Dobbin) molybdenum occurrence is located west of Tadpole Lake, approximately 26 kilometres northwest of Kelowna.

The area is underlain by Devonian to Triassic Harper Ranch Group argillaceous rocks, basalt tuffs and flows, and minor rhyolite and limestone. These are intruded by Middle Jurassic ultramafic/monzonite and calc-alkaline complexes of the informally named Terrace Creek Batholith.

Locally, molybdenum mineralization is hosted by a north-northwest–trending composite plug, of calc-alkaline composition, approximately 1.5 by 4 kilometres in area. The plug consists of a porphyritic quartz monzonite core bordered by quartz monzonite. Within the porphyry is an irregular 800 by 1900 metre zone of chlorite and sericite alteration. A zone of molybdenum mineralization 200 to 600 metres wide by 800 metres long and at least 100 metres deep occurs within the altered zone. A stockwork of quartz veinlets, from 0.5 to 1 centimetre thick, carries disseminated pyrite and molybdenite. Secondary potassium feldspar and chlorite border the veinlets. The mineralized zone is open at depth and has a shallow plunge to both the north and south.

In 1978, percussion drilling yielded up to 0.061 per cent molybdenum over 54 metres, including 0.123 per cent molybdenum over 12 metres in hole PDH-78-3, whereas other holes yielded from 0.030 to 0.274 per cent molybdenum over 3-metre widths (Property File - Verdstone Gold Corporation [1997-03-27]: Summary Report on the Dobbin-Tadpole Copper and Molybdenum Properties).

In 1980, percussion drilling yielded up to 0.044 per cent molybdenum over 92 metres in hole PDH-80-16 and 0.17 per cent molybdenum over 21 metres in hole PDH-80-4 (Verdstone Gold Corporation [1997-03-27]: Summary Report on the Dobbin-Tadpole Copper and Molybdenum Properties).

In 2000, a possible estimated resource of 150 000 000 tonnes averaging approximately 0.045 per cent molybdenum was reported (Property File - Verdstone Gold Corp. [2000-04-17]: Summary Review of the Dobbin Property).

In 1967, Phelps Dodge Corporation carried out soil geochemistry. In 1968 and 1969, Texas Gulf Sulphur Co. carried out a program of geological mapping, ground magnetometer surveying, soil geochemistry testing and drilling. During 1977 through 1980, Cominco carried out programs of geological mapping, ground magnetometer surveying, soil geochemistry testing, induced polarization surveying and percussion drilling. During 1997 through 2003, Verdstone Gold Corporation and Molycor Gold Corporation examined the area.
