The Tom showing is located within the Adams Plateau, approximately 65 kilometres northeast of Kamloops and 18 kilometres north of Chase.
Regionally, the area is underlain by sedimentary, igneous and volcanic Paleozoic rocks of the Kootenay terrane, deposited on the distal margin of the ancestral North American craton.
Locally, the area is underlain by chlorite schists, dacite, quartz-sericite phyllite and rhyolite of the Eagle Bay Formation and limestone of the Sicamous Formation.
Mineralization occurs as parallel boudinaged quartz-pyrite-chalcopyrite lenses within a chlorite-sericite schist with significant silicification halos.
In 1971, grid soil and magnetometer surveys reported by K. Daughtry and A. Wynne were completed on the area containing the occurrence.
In 1983, Esso Resources Canada Ltd. conducted a program of mapping, silt and rock chip sampling across the property containing the occurrence.
In 1985, Noranda conducted a mapping, and silt and rock chip sampling program on the property containing the occurrence. Sampling results were inconclusive.
In 1988, Brican Resources Ltd. conducted a drill program totalling 1,220.4 metres across 6 holes. The most significant result came from drill hole 294-6 grading 2.42 percent copper across 1.3 metres at 139.6 metres depth (Ostler, J. (2012-02-28): Noranda/Kuroko-Type Sulphide Mineralization on the Corning Creek Property).
In 2010, Bruce Squinas and associates conducted a small prospecting program on the property containing the occurrence. Results are not discussed.
In 2011, Noka Resources Inc. conducted an exploration program on the property including soil, chip, grab, and float sampling. Highlight results included sample C94-1 graded 16.5 parts per million copper, 1.325 percent lead, 0.544 percent zinc, and 2.26 grams per tonne silver (Ostler, J. (2012-02-28): Noranda/Kuroko-Type Sulphide Mineralization on the Corning Creek Property). Soil surveying identified broad areas of elevated zinc and copper values indicating potential areas of mineralization.
In 2011, Rogue Resources Inc. staked the claim encompassing the Tom showing. They later changed their name to Rogue Iron Ore Corp., who then executed an exploration program of geological mapping and prospecting. Highlights of the rock sampling include sample AL-21, which assayed 13.3 grams per tonne silver and 0.51 per cent copper, and sample AL11-22 which assayed 10.9 grams per tonne silver, and greater than 1 per cent copper (Assessment Report 33128).
