Capsule Geology

The Nord (Hamilton vein) showing is located on the west side of Kiakho Creek, approximately 1.5 kilometres south of the southern end of Kiakho Lakes.

The area is underlain by metasediments of the Middle Proterozoic Purcell Supergroup (Creston Formation). The rocks are intruded by rocks of the mid-Cretaceous Bayonne plutonic suite. In addition to the numerous typically granodiorite intrusives representing the Bayonne plutonic suite, much more alkaline syenite and quartz syenite intrusives (stocks and dikes) occur in this area.

Locally, at the Hamilton vein, massive quartz hosts variable amounts of pyrite, pyrrhotite, galena, sphalerite, and sporadic chalcopyrite as disseminations, stringers, and fault crush zones at the contact of a Proterozoic Moyie Intrusions diorite sill with Helikian Aldridge Formation (Purcell Supergroup) turbidites. Outcropping Aldridge strata strikes northwest and dips 10 to 15 degrees northeast.

In 1939, sampling of the quartz vein exposed in the adit assayed up to 21.2 grams per tonne gold and 10.9 grams per tonne silver over 0.65 metre (Assessment Report 20065).

In 1989, a chip sample (100658) of the vein assayed 20.0 grams per tonne gold and 30.1 grams per tonne silver over 0.6 metre (Assessment Report 20065).

In 1990, diamond drilling yielded significant intersections including (Assessment Report 20065):

Two other quartz veins are reported in the area. The first is located 800 metres to the south of the Hamilton vein. It is situated in a shear zone, orientated 065 degrees, and dipping 80 degrees north. The vein is approximately 0.7 metre and is hosted in quartzite. During the 1930’s, a 6-metre adit was driven along the vein and 1.8 tonnes of material yielded trace gold and silver (Assessment Report 20065). Another quartz vein is reported to be located 150 metres northeast of the Hamilton vein.

WORK HISTORY

In 1903, the Lookout (L.5254) and the Belleville (L.5254) were crown granted to W.J. Hamilton. Known as the Belleville claims, workings to 1932 consisted of three shafts and adits totalling over 200 metres.

During 1966 through 1968, Placid Oil completed a program of geological mapping, a 160.0-line-kilometre induced polarization survey, a 20.8 line-kilometre ground electromagnetic survey and 128.2 line-kilometres of ground magnetic surveys in the area (Assessment Reports 863, 1043, 1174, 1178, 1207, 1670).

In 1978, Cominco completed a program of geological mapping in the area as the Vine property (Assessment Report 7087). In 1984, John Leask carried out geological mapping in the area (Assessment Report 12930). In 1989 and 1990, White Knight Resources completed programs of geophysical surveys and six diamond drill holes, totalling 788.9 metres, on the area as the Vine 55 claim (Assessment Report 20065).

In 2013/2014, PJX Resources Inc began a large program of gravity and magnetic geophysical surveying to detect dense subsurface features (Assessment Reports 34082, 34937, 35416). The gravity survey extended 10 kilometres beyond the West Basin property claim boundaries encompassing several MINFILE occurrences including the Nord prospect (Figure 8, Assessment Report 34082).
