Capsule Geology

The Stang showing is located about 67 kilometres southeast of Fernie and about 1 kilometre east of Roche Creek.

At the Stang showing, stratabound chalcopyrite, bornite and chalcocite are disseminated within Helikian Purcell Group quartzite and concentrated at the margins diorite sills which occur in the succession (Geology, Exploration and Mining in BC 1970, page 478). A very small Cretaceous stock, consisting of syenite to monzonite, occurs about 1 kilometre to the southwest of the Stang MINFILE plot location (MapPlace geology).

Samples taken from northeast tributary of Roche Creek are designated KH-1 to KH-4, HKR-1 to HKR-8, and KR-1 to KR-9 and are amongst those collected on, or just west of, the Paul and Stang claim area (Table III and Appendix III, Assessment Report 3160). Samples KH-5 to KH-7 were collected from the La Coulotte Ridge area which is reported to be a few hundred metres east of the KH-1 to 4, HKR 1-8, and KR 1-9 samples that were collected from northeast tributaries of Roche Creek. From Map 2 (Assessment Report 3160), it is concluded that the Stang and Paul claims were located along La Coulotte Ridge and centred roughly 1.7 kilometres east of Roche Creek.

WORK HISTORY

In 1970, an exploration program by Alcor Minerals over the Commerce area consisted of sampling sediments in streams draining several Flathead River properties, including the Tri, Top, and the Stang/Paul claim groups, all within an area bound by Commerce Creek and La Coulotte Ridge, and south to, and along Sage Creek (Assessment Report 3160). A total of 231 samples were collected and assayed for copper, lead and zinc. Thirty-one mineral occurrences were discovered on, and adjacent to, the Flathead River properties. Many of these mineral occurrences were reported as “unimportant” but still of interest.

Refer to Commerce F & G (082GSE006), Tri 37 (082GSE007), Commerce Zone C (082GSE047), or Commerce (082GSE065) for a complete work history of the nearby Tri and Commerce occurrences.
