The McPhee property is located 12 kilometres southeast of Castlegar, southwest of Grassy Mountain. The property is located between 1200 and 1600 metres elevation, along a ridge which divides the Champion and McPhee Creek drainages.

The area is underlain by a roof pendant of Lower to Middle Jurassic Rossland Group rocks enclosed by monzonite and hornblende diorite of the Middle Jurassic Bonnington Pluton. Quartz pebble conglomerate, probably of the Hall Formation, occurs in the northwest part of the property along the contact with a massive pyrrhotite horizon. Altered andesitic flows of the Elise Formation also occurs on the property.

The zone of massive pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite occurs within the pebble conglomerate. Historical adits and shafts have been driven on the mineralization. The massive sulphide band is 1 to 5 metres wide and has been traced on surface for 1.5 kilometres. Rock samples of the massive sulphide zone assay up to 0.7 per cent copper, 0.06 per cent cobalt, 0.26 per cent tungsten and 0.14 per cent molybdenum. Samples of the quartz pebble conglomerate returned values up to 3.62 per cent zinc, 0.56 per cent lead, 42.5 grams per tonne silver and 0.15 grams per tonne gold. Rock samples of the andesite returned values up to 13 grams per tonne gold, 6.8 grams per tonne silver, 1.5 per cent copper, 0.15 per cent nickel, 0.05 per cent cobalt and 3.8 per cent zinc. (George Cross Newsletter #60 (March 26, 1998).

The associated Cordierite showing, is an area of rusty weathered, strongly magnetic, dark grey, pyritic, altered and metamorphosed volcaniclastics, locally a cordierite-biotite-anthophyllite schist. Anomalous gold values, in the hundreds of parts per billion gold range, have been returned from rock samples collected over a 10 metre wide zone; with a maximum value of 1.0 gram per tonne gold over a 1.0 metre width (Assessment Report 31929).

Work History

Bruce Doyle acquired claims in the area about 1995; these were optioned by Phelps Dodge Corporation of Canada in 1996. They carried out exploration, including soil geochemical sampling, mapping and prospecting on the south-central part of the property in 1997. The option was dropped in 1997. Interest in the property is being acquired by Miner River Resources Ltd. and Eagle Plains Resources Ltd. Interest in the property was acquired by Eagle Plains Resources Ltd., the next year. Cassidy Gold optioned the property in September, 2000 and completed a small diamond drill program. Five holes, totalling 607 metres, were drilled. Firestone ventures optioned the property in 2004 and in 2005 completed a program of prospecting, rock and soil sampling and geological mapping. In 2007 and 2008, Medallion Resources examined the property and completed a helicopter-borne mag-AeroTEM-radiometric survey and soil sampling. During 2009 through 2011, Cassidy Gold and Swift Minerals completed programs of prospecting, soil sampling, geological mapping, three diamond drill holes, totalling 147 metes, and 147 metres of trenching on the area. During 2012 through 2018, the area was prospected by B. Doyle. Later in 2018, Walcott Resources Ltd. completed a program of ground geophysical surveys on the area as the Cobalt Hill property.
