The Elmo occurrence is located approximately 1.25 kilometres west of Mount Dickson, at approximately 2000 metres elevation in the headwaters of Sanca Creek.
The area is underlain by granodioritic intrusive rocks of the middle Cretaceous Bayonne Batholith, including two discrete phases: a medium-grained equigranular and a coarse-grained equigranular to megacrystic (porphyritic) quartz monzonite. Both phases are cut to varying degrees by a stockwork of quartz-muscovite (greisen) veinlets.
Locally, molybdenite, scheelite, fluorite, magnetite, pyrite and chalcopyrite occur as infrequent accessory minerals within the quartz veinlets, most frequently where the veinlets are widest in certain areas of the porphyritic quartz monzonite. The fractures/veinlets are commonly limonite altered. The predominant trend of the veinlets is west-southwest with dips varying from 60 degrees northeast to 60 degrees southwest. A 20-centimetre wide greisen-filled shear, trending 355 degrees and dipping 90 degrees and containing pods, up to 40 by 25 centimetres wide, of molybdenite-bearing greisen is noted in one location.
Scattered occurrences of powellite and scheelite mineralization associated with a fine-grained quartz monzonite and sericitized fractures are reported to the north on the former Sanca claim.
In 1979, rock samples yielded up to 0.006 per cent molybdenum, 0.074 per cent copper, 0.040 per cent tungsten and 26.0 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 7886).
In 2007, five (of seven) rock samples yielded from 0.219 to 0.528 per cent molybdenum, 0.023 per cent copper and 0.006 per cent tungsten (Assessment Report 29779).
In 1979, Placer Development Ltd. completed a program of geological mapping and rock and silt sampling on the area as the Jaim claim. In 1980, Cominco Ltd. completed a program of soil and silt sampling and geological mapping on the area immediately north as the Sanca claim. In 1983, Billiton Canada Ltd. soil sampled the area as the Elmo claims. In 2007, the area was prospected and sampled by Selkirk Mineral Syndicate.
