The PEG 1 showing is located in southern British Columbia in the Slocan Valley, within a kilometre south of Passmore, and approximately 600 metres west of the Slocan River.
The area is underlain by Carboniferous to Permian metamorphic rocks. Approximately 20 to 25 crystals were found at the PEG 1 location. The crystals were green-blue in colour and reached 5 centimetres long by 1-1.5 centimetres wide (100-125 carats), with strong hexagonal habit typical for beryl. The crystals grew in situ in feldspars and quartz. The crystals are most often translucent to opaque with numerous fractures perpendicular to their c-axis. Translucent areas are produced by microscopic fluids and/or mineral inclusions in the crystal. Gem quality crystals are rare.
