The Commonwealth (L.4172) occurrence is located in the southern head waters of Hooker Creek and on the north side of Hooker Mountain.

The area is underlain by Middle Proterozoic rocks of the Purcell Supergroup and by Upper Paleozoic rocks of the Windermere Supergroup. Windermere rocks include conglomerate of the Toby Formation and quartzite, limestone, arkose and pebble conlgomerate of the Horsethief Creek Group. Purcell rocks include laminated argillite, dolomite and quartzite of the Mount Nelson and Dutch Creek formations.

Locally, four mineralized zones (Commonwealth, Ruby, Empress and TK) have been identified. Mineralization consists of galena, tetrahedrite, ruby silver, sphalerite, pyrite and chalcopyrite hosted by quartz veins and stock works in a buff- coloured dolomite within a sequence of argillites of the Upper Proterozoic Horsethief Creek Group (Windermere Supergroup). Alteration minerals of hematite, malachite and azurite are also reported. The vein or veins have been traced for approximately 450 metres along strike, with a maximum width of 5 metres.

In 1980, 10 select grab samples from the Commonwealth zone yielded an average of 1.21 grams per tonne gold, 978.5 grams per tonne silver, 19.36 per cent lead, 2.24 per cent copper and 1.38 per cent zinc (Assessment Report 10463). A sample (RB-6-FW) from trenches on the Ruby zone assayed 0.330 per cent lead and 16.2 grams per tonne silver, while a sample (EM-3) from the Empress zone assayed 0.74 per cent copper and 3.2 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 10463).

In 1987, grab samples from the TK zone, hosted by conglomerates of the Toby Formation, yielded up to 9.2 per cent lead, 5.0 per cent zinc and 1265.4 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 15933).

The area was originally explored and staked in 1896 and by 1905 a number of open-cuts and two adits, one now caved and the other 35- metres long, were completed. The geological mapping of the area was completed in the mid to late 1930’s. In 1979, a program of prospecting and silt and soil sampling was completed on the area. In 1980 and 1981, Greenwich Resources completed programs of rock and silt sampling, geological mapping and a ground electromagnetic survey on the area as the Hidden Treasure and Hooker claims. In 1987, Rival Minerals completed a program of soil sampling and a 37.0 line-kilometre combined ground electromagnetic and magnetic survey. In 2008, a soil sampling program was completed on the area as the Late 1-3 claims.
