The Elmore occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 1160 metres on a south-facing slope, northwest of Sutherland Creek and approximately 5 kilometres northeast of the community of Fife on Christina Lake.
The area is underlain by limestone, greywacke and fine clastic sedimentary rocks of the Carboniferous to Permian Mount Roberts Formation that have been intruded by a complex assemblage of Middle Jurassic gabbro, diorite and granite. To the north and east, syenitic to monzonitic intrusive rocks of the Eocene Coryell Plutonic Suite are exposed.
The main showing consists of an exposure of siliceous gossan (endoskarn) containing massive to disseminated pyrrhotite, magnetite, pyrite and minor chalcopyrite mineralization in a massive amphibolite, adjacent to the contact with limestone and associated with a garnetiferous skarn. The mineralized zone is locally quartz veined and brecciated and is contained in a silicified, hard, fine-grained metamorphosed unit which appears to be related to the intrusive rocks. The mineralized zone trends approximately east-west to possibly northwest and has been traced along strike for approximately 20 metres and over a width of at least 10 metres.
At least two other similar zones of mineralization, referred to as the Big Iron and Beech zones, are reported approximately 700 metres to the northwest and 600 metres north, respectively.
In 1985, a rock sample (R-3) assayed 0.210 per cent copper, 5.8 grams per tonne silver and 0.085 gram per tonne gold, whereas another sample (R-7) yielded 0.240 per cent copper (Assessment Report 13963).
In 2006, two grab samples (207a and b) yielded 0.650 and 0.408 per cent copper, respectively (Assessment Report 28142).
Historical workings, likely dating to the early 1900s, include numerous shallow trenches and a 3-metre deep shaft.
In 1969, Boundary Exploration Ltd. completed a program of silt and soil sampling, geological mapping and an 8.0 line-kilometre ground magnetic survey on the area. In 1970 and 1971, Imperial Oil Enterprises completed programs of rock and soil sampling, geological mapping and ground magnetometer surveys on the area as the FCC group of claims. In 1985, International Tillex Enterprises Ltd. completed a program of rock and soil sampling, geological mapping and ground electromagnetic and magnetic surveys on the area as the Italy group of claims.
In 2006, Kootenay Gold Inc. completed a program of geological mapping on the area as the Hope 1 claim. The following year, a 7.5 line-kilometre ground magnetic survey was completed. In 2013, A.B. Firmston prospected and sampled the area as the Golden Goose and Cannonball properties.
