The area is underlain by Middle and Upper Cretaceous Spences Bridge Group (Spius Creek Formation) volcanics. Black and grey agate nodules are found in and below basalt bluffs. These consist primarily of banded agate nodules, many with plume. In 2009 through 2011, the area was held and prospected as the Opal Slopes, Opal Summit and Opal 1-4 claims by W.L. Amey. Approximately 2.5 kilograms of black and grey agate samples were collected from the Opal Slopes claims (Assessment Report 31482). A number of agate samples, along with two small samples of opal were collected from the Opal One claim during the same time (Assessment Report 31588).
