The Angus occurrence is located near Hook Lake in northern British Columbia, approximately 45 kilometres south-southeast of Watson Lake, Yukon Territory, within the Liard Mining Division. The property is not accessible by road.
The Angus showing is hosted within the Kechika Trough. The Kechika Trough and its northern extension, the Selwyn Basin, are elongate, rift-controlled, sedimentary basins that formed along the North American continental margin during the Upper Proterozoic to Paleozoic. The Angus property lies approximately 7.5 kilometres west of the mapped trace of the Northern Rocky Mountain Trench fault, a major dextral strike-slip component of the Tintina fault zone.”
The region surrounding the Angus showing is underlain by the regionally extensive, Upper Cambrian to Middle Ordovician Kechika Group, which consists broadly of generally well-bedded, moderately to strongly deformed, and weakly to non-metamorphosed limestones and variably carbonaceous argillites, siltstones, shales, slates, and conglomerates.
In 2011, prospecting uncovered silicified and quartz veined and stockworked limestone, siltstone and variably graphitic shale and argillite of the Cambrian-Ordovician Kechika Group. Limited rock sampling yielded 0.11 per cent zinc from rusty black shale (Assessment Report 32978). Minor pyrite and limonite after pyrite occur within the hostrocks and some quartz veins and veinlets.
The Angus property is characterized by a northwest-trending, open-ended, 1100-metre long by 300-metre wide, multi-element soil anomaly that is coincident with a geophysical anomaly of high chargeability. A 2011 grid soil survey yielded maximum assay values of 150 parts per billion gold, 6.6 parts per million silver, 205 parts per million arsenic, 45 parts per million antimony, 1344 parts per million zinc, 61 parts per million lead, 79 parts per million molybdenum, 420 parts per million copper and 5.11 per cent iron (Assessment Report 32978).
Work History
In 1996, the Eastern Angus property was staked as part of the B Claim Block by Tizard Explorations Inc. to cover one of eight airborne magnetic anomalies detected by a regional survey of the Kechika Trough by Donegal Developments Ltd. In 1997, a lake bottom sediment survey, and reconnaissance soil, magnetic and VLF-EM lines were completed by Tizard Explorations Inc. In 2007, claims covering the anomalous region were re-staked as the Angus claims by S. Young. In 2008, a widely spaced reconnaissance MMI soil geochemical survey was completed by Donegal Developments Ltd. In 2011, a program funded by Galena Capital Corp. consisted of a 262.5 line-kilometre airborne electromagnetic and magnetic geophysical survey followed by a field program of grid and minor reconnaissance soil geochemical sampling and prospecting.
