The Hyland River Gold Placer occurrence is located south of the Alaska Highway, along Hyland River, approximately 17 kilometres east of Lower Post.
Black sand concentrations occur along the upstream shoulders of the concave river shoreline. Fine-grained gold with associated garnets occurs within the black sand and the gold has high concentrations locally. From 1967, exploration assays from test pits excavated to 2.4 metres deep ranged from 0.68 to 17.8 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 15820). Gold amalgamation tests in 1988 only recovered an immeasurably small amount of gold; however, a ground magnetometric survey outlined some areas believed to be black sand concentrations.
During 2007 through 2011, R. McPherson conducted geological and engineering investigations to develop an understanding of the geological framework of the gold deposits, their origin and distribution, and potential gold reserves. In addition, extensive time was spent developing a process and the appropriate equipment to recover the fine gold that is prevalent on the property. Favourable results from these investigations resulted in Grizzly Holdings Inc. entering into a Joint Venture with Liard Holding Corp. on June 1, 2011 to explore for and develop the property.
In 2014 Angel Jade Mines Ltd conducted an exploration program that included 4.3 kilometres of resistivity surveying, a single hand trench and some pan sampling. In 2015 Angel Jade Mines Ltd machine excavated six test pits on the property to establish gravel profiles and test gold concentrations.
