Capsule Geology

The Pant occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 1300 metres on the southern slopes of Limestone Peak, north of Lang Creek and approximately 7 kilometres southeast of the historical town of Cassiar.

Regionally, the area is underlain by quartz arenite sedimentary rocks of the Lower Cambrian Boya Formation (Atan Group), limestone, marble and calcareous sedimentary rocks of the Lower Cambrian Rosella Formation (Atan Group), limestone, slate, siltstone and argillite of the Ordovician to Silurian Road River Group and calcareous sedimentary rocks of the McDame Group. Granitic intrusive rocks of the Lower Cretaceous Cassiar Batholith are exposed to the west.

Locally, a fault zone trending 160 degrees separates Lower Cambrian Rosella Formation (Atan Group) marbles from Ordovician-Silurian Road River Group black shales to the east. Two replacement zones of massive sulphide in the carbonates contain arsenopyrite, cassiterite, pyrrhotite, pyrite and siderite.

A sample across a 3.3-metre width assayed 1.5 per cent tin. The faulted footwall contains a galena- and sphalerite-bearing quartz vein. Assay results from drilling by Shell Canada Resources in 1980 include 0.6 metre grading 49 grams per tonne silver, 0.74 per cent zinc, 0.22 per cent lead, 0.10 per cent tin and 0.08 per cent copper, and 0.4 metre grading 296.2 grams per tonne silver and 2.28 per cent lead (Assessment Report 9262).

A second zone of replacement-style mineralization, identified in 2003 and referred to as the Pant North zone, is located approximately 500 metres along strike to the north of the main Pant occurrence. The zone comprises a 2-metre-wide mineralized zone that trends 160 to 165 degrees with a dip of 40 to 60 degrees east and has been intermittently traced along a 300-metre strike length. Mineralization consists of pyrite, pyrrhotite and arsenopyrite with local galena and sphalerite. This zone might relate to a zone of tin mineralization with pyrite and trace sphalerite, identified in the early 1980s, located north-northwest of the Pant occurrence at an elevation of approximately 1580 metres on a steep south-facing slope.

In 2003, grab and chip samples from the Pant North zone yielded up to 1.24 per cent zinc, 0.6 per cent lead, 0.5 per cent tin, 57 grams per tonne silver and 8.2 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 27337).

Work History

In 1959, Totem Minerals Inc. completed a 238.0 line-kilometre airborne magnetic and electromagnetic survey on the area as the Vines claims. In 1969, Chapparal Mines Ltd. and Coast Silver Mines Ltd. completed a 486.0 line-kilometre airborne magnetic survey on the area.

In 1979, Shell Canada Resources Limited entered into an option agreement with W.J. Storie of Cassiar on an 83-claim property. Shell conducted exploration programs on the property during 1979 through 1981. In 1981, approximately 550 metres of diamond drilling were completed along with geological mapping, prospecting and geochemical surveys. One hole, totalling 286.5 metres, was completed on the Pant occurrence.

During 1998 through 2008, Eveready Resources Corporation completed programs of geological mapping, geochemical (rock and soil) sampling and trenching on the area as the Cassiar property. In 2014, BC Moly Ltd. completed a program of geological mapping on the Storie property.
