The Shar 5-6 occurrence is located 12 kilometres north of Klinkit Lake in the Cassiar Mountains of northwestern British Columbia, about 144 kilometres east of the community of Atlin.
Mississippian Swift River Group sediments and minor mafic volcanics are intruded by Early Jurassic granite and granodiorite of the Nome Lake batholith. Scheelite occurs as disseminations with pyrrhotite in skarns near the intrusive contact. Elsewhere, disseminated pyrite occurs in quartzite and graphitic pelites. The bedding of the sediments strikes from 040 to 110 degrees with moderate dips from northwest to south.
In 1979, the Shar 5 and 6 claims were staked to cover a Geological Survey of Canada stream sediment anomaly released in Open File 561. In the same year, CanadianOxy conducted geological and geochemical surveys; a total of 1 heavy mineral, 19 stream sediments, 15 stream water, 23 soil and 9 rock samples were collected.
The showing was re-staked by J.M. Dawson and N.C. Aspinall as joint venture partners in late 2006 and early 2007. Along with a number of other northwest British Columbia mineral prospects, staked as geochemical anomalies, the Klinkit Lake property was incorporated into the Rossing Joint Venture in February, 2007. The Rossing Joint Venture concluded an option agreement with Garnet Point Resources Corp in April, 2007. In 2007, Garnet Point Resources Corp. conducted a soil-silt geochemical survey on the Klinkit Lake property and a total of 112 soil and 59 silt samples were collected.
