Capsule Geology

The South Mountain showing is located on the west side of Tutshi Lake near Paddy Pass.

The region of the South Mountain showing is underlain by sedimentary, intrusive and metamorphic origin. The oldest of these units is the Devonian-Triassic Boundary Ranges Metamorphic Suite. The Lower Jurassic Laberge Group consisting of volcanic-derived clastic sedimentary rocks in the form of argillites and conglomerates with an interval of limestone toward the base. An unnamed package of Jurassic volcanics occurs as a northwest-trending belt to the south of the Missing Link-Tannis-South Mountains zones. The Upper Triassic Stuhini Group forms a northwest trending volcanic belt to the northeast of the Middle Ridge area.

There are two Late Cretaceous intrusions on Middle Ridge consisting of equigranular biotite granite and finely crystalline rhyolite.

The Catfish claims straddle the contact between granite of the Later Cretaceous and rocks the Devonian to Triassic Boundary Ranges Metamorphic Suite. The metamorphics form a 200 metre thick exposure consisting of quartz- feldspar chlorite gneiss and chlorite-sericite schist. A well defined fault, striking 160 degrees and dipping vertically, marks the gneiss and granite contact. Overlying the metamorphic rocks are very gossanous dacites and andesites of the Stuhini Group.

The property follows the regional northwest trend; foliations average 140 to 160 degrees with near vertical dips. Numerous quartz veins, ranging from 1.0 centimetre to 1.5 metres, crosscut both the granite and metamorphic rocks. The first set, which trends east-southeast, are generally barren. The major mineralized veins trend northeast and mineralization is confined to quartz veins which have an arsenopyrite rich core and a green to yellow alteration envelope (scorodite).

The lithological units observed on South Mountain consist of the southern extension of the Tannis Zone (104M 074) rhyolite mentioned above, bounded on the east side by the Boundary Ranges Metamorphic Suite and on the west by an unnamed package of Jurassic(?) volcanic rocks. The rhyolite intrudes these two bounding units and proceeds to pinch out on the south side of South Mountain.

At the South Mountain showing, arsenopyrite-rich quartz veins are confined to the intrusive hostrocks. The northeast contact with the metamorphics is a sharp linear feature.

Nine separate quartz-arsenopyrite veins of varying lengths and thicknesses were mapped on South Mountain in 2008. Mineralogy and orientation of these veins is similar to those on Middle Ridge. The longest of these veins is 110 metres and thickness ranges from 2 to 80 centimetres. A total of 15 samples were assayed with 13 yielding significant gold plus/minus silver plus/minus lead values.

In this zone alone there is significant variability amongst gold, silver, arsenic and lead. Chalcopyrite and galena occur sporadically as infill in cracks and cavities, and are typically pervasively replaced by a variety of secondary lead and copper ore minerals. SEM analysis indicates complex zoning of sulphides and oxides and that silver occurs in lead-bearing secondary minerals, suggesting a primary argentiferous galena.

A grab sample assayed 13.2 grams per tonne gold, 351.4 grams per tonne silver, 0.2153 per cent copper, 1.46 per cent lead, 0.0075 per cent zinc, 0.5292 per cent antimony and 4.3 per cent arsenic (Assessment Report 18522, sample C8R 10R).

Work History

In the mid 2000 the Golden Eagle property consisted of three blocks: Bennett Lake Block (containing zones: West Gully, Plateau, Cowboy, LQ, Stibnite, Skarn, North Prospect); Tannis Block (containing zones: Tannis, Middle Ridge, North and South Mountain, Catfish, Missing Link, Tim) and Golden Eagle Block (containing zones: Carbonate, Jessie and Camp).

In 2008, mapping and prospecting by Troymet Exploration Corp was limited to Middle Ridge (Tannis and Missing Link zones), North Mountain (Catfish Zone and Tim Vein) and South Mountain (South Mountain Zone), located in the middle of the Golden Eagle property, west of Tutshi Lake. The focus of mapping was the Tannis zone, but lithologies present there extend into the other prospected areas. A select sample (C202147) assayed 7.91 grams per tonne gold, 1250 grams per tonne silver and 0.355 per cent lead (Aurora Geosciences Ltd. (2012-07-09): Technical Report – Golden Eagle Property).
