Capsule Geology

The area of the Net 3 showing, west of Bennett Lake, is underlain by Late Cretaceous garnet biotite quartz monzonite and feldspar porphyry biotite quartz monzonite of the Coast Plutonic Complex.

Uranium exploration began in the area near Partridge Lake in 1978 when E & B Exploration Ltd. ran a regional exploration program.

A radioactive zone is associated with a 1 to 2 metre wide, 6-metre-long oxidized fracture zone within biotite-muscovite-garnet quartz monzonite, near its contact with the porphyritic pluton. The rock is highly altered to a soft, readily decomposed mixture of saussurite and manganese oxide. A sample of the zone assayed 65 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 7417).

A uranium-rich spring, 50 metres to the south, contains highly anomalous silver and uranium values within organic-sediment. Assays were up to 0.46 per cent uranium and 243 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 7417).

A heavy mineral sample taken from a lower elevation contained visible silver, molybdenite and scheelite grains in the heavy non-magnetic fraction. This fraction contained 0.25 per cent uranium and 0.17 per cent thorium (Assessment Report 7417).

In 1978, work done on behalf of E & B Explorations Ltd. on their NET 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 claims consisted of reconnaissance geological mapping and geochemical sampling: this includes grid controlled geological-geochemical surveys on the east side of Bennett Lake as well as follow-up prospecting, geological mapping and geochemical sampling on the west side of Bennett Lake. A total of 84 rocks -, 74 silt - and 21 soil samples were collected (Assessment Report 7417). Net 1 and 6 were staked on the east side of Bennett Lake and Net 2, 3, 4 and 5 were staked on the west side. In 1978, work done on behalf of E & B Explorations Ltd. on their NET 1, 2, 3 and 5 claims included the collection of 7 rock - and 46 silt samples (Assessment Report 6882). Samples were analysed for uranium and thorium.

In 1981, Kennco Explorations (Western) Limited was the operator on the Net claims held by E & B Explorations Ltd (Assessment Report 9454). A total of 46 rock samples (primarily chip samples) and 8 stream sediment samples were collected. This included 2 rock samples and 6 stream sediment samples on the Net 2 claim, 44 rock samples on the Net 3 claim, and 2 stream sediment samples on the Net 5 claim. Geological mapping was completed during the course of sample collecting traverses.
