The Post area is underlain by the contact Pennsylvanian undivided volcanic rocks of the Stikine Assemblage with Upper Triassic marine sediments and volcanic rocks of the Stuhine Group. A kilometre to the northwest is the contact of a Middle to Late Triassic stock of quartz diorite. About 3 kilometres further to the northwest is a similar sized stock of Paleocene to Eocene granite and alkali feldspar granite of the Sloko-Hyder Plutonic Suite.
Gold mineralization within the are of the Post occurrence is reported to be strongly associated with the bedding of the Stikine Assemblage rocks. Parallel zones of intense albite and silica alteration accompany these mineralized areas. The predominate sulfide mineral is pyrite and gold contents have been noted to increase with pyrite contents. Pyrite typically occurs as 1 to 3 per cent, very fine-grained, euhedral disseminations and as semi-massive pods that range from 10 centimetres to 1 metre.
In 1994, the Post was drilled by drill holes BN001, BN002 and BN003 on two sections 75 metres apart, to test for mineralization at or near the Stikine-Stuhini contact. The targets were outlined by anomalous soil and rock geochemistry and geophysics. The geology encountered in all three drill holes consisted of unaltered Stuhini Group volcaniclastics, a narrow fault zone, and interbedded volcanic tuffs and argillites of the Stikine Assemblage. The Stikine volcanics are invariably carbonatized and locally albite-silica altered, while the argillites are locally sheared and pyritic. Strongly anomalous to low grade gold values were encountered starting at the fault zone and continue erratically down the holes through the interbedded volcanics and argillites package, with no apparent regard for lithology or alteration. The best results were obtained from the fault contact zone. One of the best intercepts was from 88.69 metres to 91.69 metres where this 3-metre interval assayed 3.96 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 23597).
