Capsule Geology

The Shield occurrence of the Canyon Creek property is located on the east side of Slough Mountain, about 14 kilometres northwest of the north end of Dease Lake.

Late Triassic quartz monzonite and quartz monzonite porphyry are cut by a large northwest trending fault zone. The adjoining rocks have pervasive propylitic alteration and quartz veining. The intrusions are in contact with Upper Triassic Shonektaw Formation volcanic rock of the Takla Group.

At the Shield showing, molybdenite and minor chalcopyrite occur in quartz seams in fractured quartz monzonite adjacent to the fault structure. The mineralized zone is restricted, and exhibits intense sericite, minor orthoclase, and biotite alteration.

In 1977-78, Noranda Exploration Company Limited completed grid preparation, prospecting, and soil (764 samples) and silt (49 samples) sampling. In 2007, Paget Resources Corporation collected rock samples mainly from outcrops in the Canyon Creek area (104J 022) and from float boulders and subcrops in the Shield area. In total, 22 rock samples were obtained from the Canyon Creek area, and 21 rock samples were obtained from the Shield area.

A map in the 1971 assessment report 3423 filed by Dolmage Campbell/UMEX indicates the locations of 5 drill holes drilled by UMEX in 1971 on the eastern portion of the property (MINFILE occurrence 104J 027) however they were not filed for assessment and the results for these holes are unknown. Locations of two of these 5 drill holes were discovered and recorded using a GPS. The locations were 427100 east, 6528700 north, elevation 1283.3 metres and 426129 east, 6529839 north, elevation 1297.4 metres.

Between 2007 and 2012 the area became a focus of exploration for porphyry-style mineralization. Geochemical surveys in the field were followed by catchment analysis and Fugro magnetic surveys were conducted on behalf of operator Sirex Exploration Canada Ltd. over the survey block which measured 10 by 12 kilometre (1317 line-kilometres) (Assessment Report 33775). The 2012 airborne magnetic survey conducted by Fugro outlined a multiphase intrusive body forming an arch-like magnetic response trending southeast-northwest along a distance of 8 kilometres. A total of 55 rock samples, 104 silt samples, 42 soil samples, and 42 biogeochemistry samples were collected. The Fugro survey included coverage over both the Jim and Shield showings of the Copper Creek property and sampling was also completed in both areas.

In 2016, A helicopter-borne ZTEM electromagnetic survey was flown by Geotech Ltd. over Block 2016 of the Canyon Creek mineral claims, held by Christopher Baldys (Assessment Report 36494). A number of conductive structures of interest were identified. The Jim showing is contained within the survey boundaries but the Shield showing is located outside the survey, about 1 kilometre to the southeast.

In 2018, a team sampled the mineralized and altered rock exposures at the Jim (MINFILE 104J 022) location of the Canyon Creek property (claim 940112), owned by Christopher Baldys. A total of 10 rock samples were collected. All samples collected showed some chalcopyrite, molybdenite and pyrite mineralization with various degree of oxidation expressed by malachite and goethite. Rock samples 100007 to 100012 were collected from this stop and represent the several phases of intrusion and mineralization observed at the stop. One sample with higher copper values yielded 0.356 per cent copper and 0.014 per cent molybdenum (Assessment Report 38020).
