The Devon VII area is underlain by Lower Permian limestone of the Stikine Assemblage and Triassic volcanic and sedimentary rock, including that of the Upper Triassic Stuhini Group. The stratigraphy is intruded by Late Triassic to Early Jurassic stocks such as that identified in the Galore Creek area to the west as the Copper Mountain Plutonic Suite.
In 1990, prospector J. Ruza blasted trenches in gossanous zones in volcanic and sedimentary rocks containing pyrites and copper minerals. Nine dynamited trenches totalling 27 metres in length were excavated. Fourteen rock samples were taken from the trenches and were analyzed.
Trenches 7 to 9 were grouped in one discrete area on the Devon VII claim.
Trench 8, sample Devon7-2 assayed 0.95 per cent copper and 6.2 grams per tonne silver and 1 part per billion gold (Assessment Report 20587).
The area is presently held by Novagold Canada Inc who has been developing the nearby Copper Canyon deposit (104G 017).
