The area of the Scotch 5 showing is underlain by Triassic quartz diorite of the Hickman Batholith. Highly hematitic potassium feldspar-altered intrusive rock is locally mineralized in a fault adjacent to a dike. Sulphides include chalcopyrite and possibly bornite and chalcocite. One sample yielded 0.71 per cent copper and 6 grams per tonne silver (Sample 32727, Assessment Report 21061).
