The Growly Bear area is underlain by andesitic rock of the Upper Triassic Stuhini Group. A pluton of predominantly diorite and granodiorite Triassic to Jurassic intrudes the strata the a few hundred metres to the southwest.
Growly Bear showing comprises an area of gold-bearing semi-massive chalcopyrite mineralization which occurs in one or more strong calcite veins on a ridge crest that extends east from Grass Mountain (Assessment Report 20550). Five hand trenches were excavated by Teck Corporation to test the showing. The showing was briefly re-examined in 2010 by Strategic Metals and although the trenches had slumped in, the nature of the mineralization was confirmed.
The best mineralized parts of the vein exposed in Trenches 1 to 4 average 7.44 grams per tonne gold and 3.24 per cent copper over a width of 2.9 metre for a 20 metre strike length (Assessment Report 31838).
