The Stairway occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 840 metres on or near a northeast flowing tributary of Bronson Creek and approximately 5.1 southeast of the junction of Bronson Creek and the Iskut River.
The area is underlain by a sequence of folded and faulted andesitic volcanic and clastic sedimentary rock units of the Upper Triassic Stuhini Group and andesitic volcanic rocks of the Lower Jurassic Hazelton Group. The sequences of clastic layered rocks consist of volcanic wackes, andesitic flows, and argillite interbeds. The sedimentary and volcanic rocks have been intruded by monzodioritic to gabbroic rocks of the Triassic to Jurassic Iskut River (Bronson) Stock.
Locally, mineralized veins are reported at the Upper and Lower Stairway zones and the nearby Ladder Creek zone.
In 2011, a chip sample (SP11-8-30-6) from a trench on the Upper Stairway zone assayed 9.88 grams per tonne gold and 259 grams per tonne silver over 0.20 metre, while three other 0.20 metre long chip samples (SP11-8-30-1, -2 and -8) from trenches on the Upper and Lower Stairway zones yielded from 2.14 to 2.99 grams per tonne gold, 164 to 370 grams per tonne silver, 0.01 to 8.42 per cent copper, 0.03 to 0.19 per cent lead and 0.01 to 2.64 per cent zinc (Burgoyne, A.A. (2012-05-07): Technical Report on The Iskut Property with Special Reference to Johnny Flats & Burnie Trend Target). Also, at this time a rock sample from the Ladder Creek zone assayed 1.2 grams per tonne gold and 6.5 grams per tonne silver (Burgoyne, A.A. (2012-05-07): Technical Report on The Iskut Property with Special Reference to Johnny Flats & Burnie Trend Target).
Work History
The area has been explored in conjunction with the nearby Bronson Slope (MINFILE 104B 077) occurrence and a complete regional exploration history can be found there.
During 2009 through 2011, Skyline Gold Corp. completed programs of prospecting, geochemical (rock and soil) sampling, trenching, airborne and ground geophysical surveys and 23 diamond drill holes, totalling 5676 metres, on the area as the Iskut property.
