The Canoe 1 occurs near the contact of a Lower Jurassic volcaniclastic unit of the Betty Creek Formation and calc-alkaline volcanic rocks of the Middle to Upper Jurassic Mount Dilworth Formation.
A sample of a mineralized quartz-calcite vein was collected just west of Tippy Lake in 2017. The vein had moderate oxide-staining and undulated from 2 to 10 centimetres in width. Fine disseminated silver-metallic minerals (sulfosalts?) were also observed within the vein. Traces of disseminated pyrite occur in the host rock. The sample graded 1,440 grams per tonne silver, 0.172 per cent lead, and 0.291 per cent zinc (sample B063627) (Assessment Report 37443).
In 2017, Pretium Exploration conducted grass roots prospecting, sampling and mapping on their Bowser property, mostly southwest and south of Bowser Lake. They collected 2901 rock and 429 silt samples (Assessment Reports 37435, 37443). The Canoe 1 mineral showing resulted from this work.
See Betty (104A 008) for details of the Bowser Lake property history, including discussion of property-wide geophysical work completed prior to 2017.
