Capsule Geology

The Summit Gossam area is underlain by andesitic rocks of the Lower Jurassic Unuk River Formation, Hazelton Group. The strata are intruded by granodioritic rock of the Early Jurassic Texas Creek Plutonic Suite.

Approximately 90 per cent of the bedrock mapped on the east portion of the 1998 Summit claims consists of Unuk River Formation dacitic volcanics (tuffs/flows and/or breccia) with minor intercalations and screens of clastic sediments and limestone. Alkaline potassium feldspar porphyry intrusive rocks cut the Unuk River Formation and appear as a 250-metre-wide stock situated on a relatively flat bench at 1275 to 1350 metres elevation. Northeast trending quartz veins occur immediately north of this alkaline stock and contain sphalerite, galena, and tetrahedrite mineralization. Northwest trending fault zones with associated pyrite-chalcopyrite-arsenopyrite-sphalerite-galena and related chlorite-carbonate alteration occurs several hundred metres east of the potassium feldspar porphyry.

A 1 metre sample with 3 per cent galena, 3 to 5 per cent sphalerite, 2 per cent tetrahedrite in quartz calcite gangue assayed 1 per cent copper, 1.24 per cent lead, 4.33 per cent zinc, 400.8 grams per tonne silver and 1.01 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 25677).

Work History

In the 1950s, Silbak-Premier mapped the main sulphide showings known as the Sunrise Group of crown granted claims (covered by Summit 1 claim of Fundamental Resources in 1998) and described 4 sub-parallel mineral zones trending northwest and dipping moderately southwest. Of these 4 mineral zones, the one closest to Summit Lake exhibited widths more than 15 metres. In addition, geological mapping outlined quartz-sulphide zones with significant base and precious metal mineralization around a short adit (on Summit 1) as well as the showings on the St. Eugene and Grey Copper crown grants (1.5 to 6 metres). Quartz-sulphide mineralization trend west-northwest, dipping steeply south-southwest.

In 1989, Carmac Resources collected 40 rock chip or grab samples around what later became the Glacier Edge showing (new), about 2.5 kilometres northeast of the Summit Gossan on the Summit 4 claim (Assessment Report 19302).

In 1991, Carmac Resources collected a total of 82 soil and 15 rock chip samples in the course of a one-day program. This occurred in the area just west and southwest of Summit Lake, east and northeast of the Summit Gossan area (Assessment Report 21822).

In 1993, Andris Kikauka collected 32 rock and 26 silt samples on the Summit 1 to 3 claims. In 1994, a fieldwork program consisting of geological mapping and soil, stream sediment and rock sampling were carried out by Andris Kikauka. A total of 13 soil and 28 soil samples were collected and 1.8 kilometres of VLF and ground magnetics geophysical surveying was completed (Assessment Report 23553).

In 1995, 18 soil and 5 rock samples were collected by Navarre Resources Corp on the Summit 1-4 claims (Assessment Report 24127). In 1996, a 0.3 kilometre by 0.25-kilometre area on the east central portion of Summit 1 and a 0.2 kilometre by 0.1-kilometre area on the Summit 4 were mapped and sampled by Navarre Resources Corp. Twenty-nine soil samples were taken and 52 rock chip samples were collected (Assessment Report 24192).

In 1998, Fundamental Resources Inc. mapped and sampled a 0.6 by 0.25-kilometre area on the Summit 4 claim and 0.5 by 0.3 kilometre area on the Summit 4 (Assessment Report 25677). A total of 19 rock samples were collected and 1.2 kilometres of ground magnetics were completed.

Between 2001 and 2004, Fundamental Resources Corp. and Andris Kikauka completed various programs of geochemical sampling, geophysical surveys and geological mapping in the Summit area the Summit area (Assessment Reports 25677, 26378, 27163).

In 2012, Eilat Resources Inc completed an airborne magnetic survey on their Summit Lake property. The survey, carried out, covered a total of 332.5-line kilometres. It was flown at 150 metre line spacing in a north-south flight direction (Assessment Report 33511).

In 2016, Triangle Exploration Limited (optionee from Eilat Explorations) completed a 566-kilometre airborne magnetic and radiometric survey which extends west, north and south from the eastern shore of Summit Lake to the eastern boundary of Eilat Exploration's 2012 airborne survey. The 2016 survey is a continuation of the airborne survey flown for Eilat Exploration in 2012 (Assessment Report 33511). Data collected from the 2016 Summit Lake survey block were merged with data collected in 2012 (Assessment Report 36318). The combined data covers 10 mineral occurrences documented in MINFILE: Scottie Gold (104B 034), St. Eugene (104B 036), Scottie North (104B 074), Blueberry (104B 133), Hicks (104B 139), Summit 5 (104B 436), Summit Gossan (104B 648), Summit Nunatak (104B 649), Glacier Edge (104B 650).

In 2020, Jayden Resources Inc. completed a program of talus fine and float sampling on the east side of the Salmon Glacier and below the old Granduc mining road.

See Summit 5 for further details (104B 436).
