The Lucky 13 showing occurs in the vicinity of the northwest trending contact of Upper Triassic Stuhini Group marine sedimentary and volcanic rocks (on the west) with Lower Jurassic andesitic rocks of the Hazelton Group (on the east).
In 1989 by Echo Bay Mines located a zone of altered felsic to intermediate volcanic and volcaniclastic rocks, intercalated with argillaceous sediments within the Hazelton Group. It was thought to offer the potential for a volcanogenic exhalative precious-base metals deposit. This zone extends over a strike length of at least 2 kilometres. Locally, these rocks are weakly mineralized and yield geochemically anomalous values in base metals, gold and silver.
At the Lucky 13 showing, a 10 to 20 metre thick zone that contains pyritiferous altered felsic fragments up to 30 centimetres in diameter occurs within a black argillaceous tuff horizon. This zone has a minimum strike length of about 200 metres. The sulphidic fragments within it may represent ejected material from a nearby hydrothermal vent. Float samples of probable exhalative origin collected from this area include massive banded pyrite and pale grey to greenish grey bedded chert with trace pyrite.
The coarse feldspar porphyry sills and dikes that occur within this sequence appear to be related to a moderate to locally intense episode of stockwork mineralization comprising quartz, calcite, chlorite, ankerite, pyrite, chalcopyrite, galena and sphalerite. This style of mineralization is found locally cutting the porphyries to the northeast in the Lucky 13 vicinity, but the most impressively altered and mineralized samples collected were from float.
In all, 14 float and 5 outcrop grab samples were collected from the area of the Lucky 13 showing in 1989 with the highest values being 0.48 and 0.88 gram per tonne gold and 1.4 and 19.4 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 19940). These high values were obtained from two float samples (35090 and 35099) that consisted of fine grained altered felsic to intermediate volcanic rocks cut by quartz veins that contain chalcopyrite, sphalerite and galena.
In 1989, Echo Bay Mines Ltd, on behalf of Silver Princess Resources Inc and Magna Ventures Ltd, carried out a program of geology mapping, prospecting and sampling on the Doc property, consisting of the Divel and Bliss claims. A total of 40 traverses were completed and 140 grab and rough chip rock samples were taken for analysis.
In 1992, Homestake Canada Inc held the Duke 1-9 claims in the region and collected 75 rock and 87 silts samples. Homestake revisited the Lucky 13 showing during the year. Results did not confirm Echo Bay results.
In 2006 and 2007, Hathor Exploration Ltd. completed a 7228.7 line-kilometre airborne geophysical survey on the area as the Gracey claims of the Iskut project. In 2008, Max Minerals Ltd. examined the property.
