The Falconer occurrence is located on an alpine ridge above the headwaters of Falconer Creek, a tributary of the Skeena River, and lies 3 kilometres south of Mount Jackson approximately 145 kilometres northeast of the community of Stewart.
The Falconer coal showing was located, trenched and sampled by Dawson and Ryan in 1989 (Geological Survey of Canada Open File 2555). The coal zone is 1.3 metres thick. The coal is anthracite rank, with a vitrinite reflectance value of 3.7 per cent RoMax. The anthracite coal showing is hosted by the Muskaboo Creek assemblage of the Upper Jurassic-Lower Cretaceous Bowser Lake Group (Geological Survey of Canada Bulletin 577). The Muskaboo Creek assemblage is mainly Jurassic, and locally may be as young as earliest Cretaceous. It is a shelf assemblage that includes both marine and non-marine deposits, including sandstone, siltstone, conglomerate and minor coal.
