The Port Edward rock quarry occurrence is located in the vicinity of Haysport on the north side of the Skeena River, near the town of Port Edward.

The area is underlain by granodiorite and diorite rocks of the Cretaceous Ecstall pluton.

In the general area, there have been many rock quarries developed by the builders of the original highway (federal government) and, since 1974, the provincial highway authorities. These quarries have provided high quality rip rap and armour rock for building the highway out onto the mudflats of the Skeena River to the east and to provide a strong foundation for the highway over the muskeg to the west. Between 2009 and 2011, the area was explored by S. Harvey as a private rock quarry, supplying construction aggregates and quarried stone products.

In 2011, an inferred volume of 770 million cubic metres of accessible rock was defined on the property (Assessment Report 32214).
