Capsule Geology

The area is underlain by biotite hornblende gneiss and amphi- bolite of the Paleozoic to Mesozoic Central Gneiss Complex. Graphite occurs as disseminations and along fractures within the gneissic rocks. A 120 metre sample collected across the gneissic bands assayed 3.0 per cent graphite. Other samples collected assayed up to 3.0 grams per tonne gold (Minister of Mines Annual Report 1921, page 41).
