The Jeanette prospect is located on a southeast-facing slope above a tributary stream to the Little Wedeene River, 13 kilometres northwest of Kitimat, B.C.
The area is underlain by andesite, basalt, rhyolite and volcanic sandstone of the Mississippian Zymoetz Group (Mt. Attree volcanics) that have been intruded by Mississippian to Permian diorites, granodiorites, tonalites and gabbros. The previous units have, in turn, been intruded by tonalites and diorites of the Late Triassic Mount Clague Pluton.
Locally, hydrothermal alteration consisting of sericite, chlorite and possibly clay minerals has affected the host Triassic volcanics and Jurassic diorites to varying degrees. Pyritic zones containing 5-7 per cent pyrite and local chalcopyrite are associated with strong local ‘potassic’ and pervasive ‘phyllic’ alteration zones, intruded by strongly epidote-altered dykes. The mineralization contains disseminations, fine veinlets and massive veins of pyrite and/or chalcopyrite. Pyrite, pyrrhotite and minor chalcopyrite occur as disseminations and fracture fillings in altered andesite porphyry and quartz-sericite-chlorite phyllite of the Lower Jurassic Telkwa Formation (Hazelton Group). The rocks are sheared and brecciated in places.
Work History
In 1973, Billy Goat Creek Mines completed a program of percussion and diamond drilling on the area.
George Cross Newsletter #25, 1974 reported a surface showing averaging 4.16 per cent copper and 6.5 grams per tonne gold across 15 metres and a drillhole intersection of 3.14 per cent copper and 1.2 grams per tonne gold over 4.6 metres. The anomalous area is reported to be 1350 by 150 metres.
In 1977, Conwest Exploration Co. Ltd. completed two diamond drill holes, totalling 175.0 metres, on the area as the CD claim. A 3-metre drill intersection assayed 0.43 per cent copper, 3.4 grams per tonne silver and 0.2 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 6629).
In 1986, Laramide Resources Ltd. completed a program of geological mapping and geochemical (rock and heavy mineral) sampling on the area as the Billy 1-11 claims. Stripping exposed a copper-bearing zone up to 3 metres wide and 25 metres long that strikes northeast and dips steeply northwest. A 1.8-metre sample assayed 1.21 per cent copper and 5.18 grams per tonne gold, whereas a 2.9-metre sample yielded 2.22 per cent copper and 2.77 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 15528).
In 1987, BP Resources Canada, on the behalf of Laramide Resources, completed a further program of geological mapping, geochemical (rock silt and soil) sampling, an induced polarization survey and four diamond drill holes, totalling 210.9 metres, on the Billy claims.
In 2010, Decade Resources Ltd. drilled 16 holes to test copper-gold mineralization in the area of the Jeanette showing. In holes J-1 to J-16, numerous sections with copper-gold values were intersected. Some of the best values include 109 metres of 0.48 per cent copper and 1.0 gram per tonne gold in DDH-2010-J1, 107 metres 0.45 per cent copper and 0.80 gram per tonne gold in DDH-2010-J-2 and 117 metres of 0.54 per cent copper and 1.03 gram per tonne gold in DDH-2010-J-7. In addition, a program of rock sampling (46 samples) defined a partially exposed area that had copper values over a distance of 400 metres. A 734 line-kilometre, helicopter-borne, versatile time domain electromagnetic (VTEM-M) and aeromagnetic geophysical survey identified a number of electromagnetic anomalies on the property surrounding the Jeanette prospect (Assessment Report 31807).
In 2013, Decade Resources Ltd. drilled one NQ hole (197 metres) to test north of the 2010 drilling on the Jeanette prospect. In the 2013-J-17 hole, narrow sections with copper-gold values were intersected. Copper values ranged from less than 0.01 to 0.486 per cent and gold ranged from less than 5 to 565 ppb (Assessment Report 34587).
In 2017 and 2018, Pacific Empire Minerals Corp. completed programs of soil and bark sampling and five reverse-circulation drill holes, totalling 326.1 metres, on the area as the Kitimat project.
