At the Kwokullie showing, about 1 metre of coal is reported near the bottom of a roadside burrow pit at a depth of approximately 6 metres. The pit has been subsequently filled in. The presence of coal was confirmed when a small sample was brought back to the district geologist at Charlie Lake (B. Baraniski, personal communication, 1985). The area is underlain by Upper Cretaceous Dunvegan Formation rock consisting of massive conglomerate, fine to coarse-grained sandstone and carbonaceous shale (of marine and non-marine origin).
