The AURORA prospect is located in the southern region of the Toodoggone Gold Camp in the Omineca Mountains, approximately 10 kilometres northeast of the Sturdee Airstrip and 21 kilometres north of the north tip of Thutade Lake and 81 kilometres west of Fort Ware. The Aurora occurrence is approximately 1.5 kilometres east of the Shasta former producing mine (094E 050) and 5 kilometres west of the Brenda prospect (094E 147), two gold-silver low-sulphidation epithermal deposits.

The Aurora prospect is part of Amarc Resources Ltd.'s NW Gossan target area of their much larger Joy project area. The NW Gossan target was defined by anomalous gold-copper, molybdenum-silver-arsenic-lead-selenium-tellurium-bismuth soil geochemical signatures and a coincidental induced polariization (IP) chargeability anomaly. Host rocks are Toodoggone Formation volcanic rocks (Duncan and Saunders Members) coinciding with a zone of pervasive sericitic, argillic and advanced argillic alteration. Intrusions cut the Toodoggone Formation rocks, including inter- to post-mineral monzonitic dikes and a diorite stock. The core of the NW Gossan target area is hosted by Toodoggone Fm intermediate volcanic rocks, which are juxtaposed across the northwest-striking Saunders Fault with Takla Group (mainly basalt).

Considerable mineral exploration has been undertaken in the region since the late 1960s. Amarc Resources Ltd. consolidated the Joy Project mineral tenure through a series of agreements concluded between 2017 and 2019. In 2019, Amarc gained a one-hundred per cent interest in the Pine property under agreements with Gold Fields and previously Cascadero (Press Release, Amarc Resources Ltd., Dec 19. 2019).

From 2016 to 2024, Amarc completed exploration programs across their Jot Project area, including historical core logging, induced polarization and airborne magnetic surveys, prospecting, mapping, geochemical soil and rock sampling and diamond drilling. The 2023 exploration program had the goal of identifying and refining porphyry copper-gold deposit targets occurring in several previously identified target areas across the JOY project (Assessment Report 41856).

In 2024, several diamond drill holes targeted the NW Gossan area, resulting in the discovery of the Aurora prospect, a gold-rich copper-gold-silver porphyry deposit: Drill hole JP24057 intersected 82 metres of 0.38 per cent copper, 1.24 grams per tonne gold, 2.47 grams per tonne silver, including 42 metres of 0.49 per cent copper, 1.97 grams per tonne gold, and 3.58 grams per tonne silver (Press Release, Amarc Resources Ltd., Jan 17, 2025). Drill hole JP24080 intersected 132 metres of 0.63 per cent copper, 1.87 grams per tonne gold and 5.2 grams per tonne silver, including 90 metres of 0.81 per cent copper, 2.53 grams per tonne gold and 6.5 grams per tonne silver. Drill hole JP24083 intersected 204 metres of 0.28 per cent copper, 0.74 gram per tonne gold and 3.9 grams per tonne silver, including 50.85 metres of 0.53 per cent copper, 1.51 grams per tonne gold and 6.5 grams per tone silver (Press Release, Amarc Resources Ltd., Feb 28, 2025).

The Aurora prospect is within the Joy Project area (2025). See the Pine deposit (094E016) for a more comprehensive documentation of exploration and geology.
