The Mac 5 Southwest occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 1660 metres on a northwest-facing slope, approximately 4.5 kilometres southwest of Mount McNamara.
The area is underlain by marine sedimentary rocks and volcanic rocks of the Lower to Middle Jurassic Hazelton Group and Upper Triassic Stuhini Group. These have been intruded by the Lower Jurassic Black Lake intrusive suite, which consists of generally medium-grained granodiorite to quartz monzonite.
Locally, a 30- to 50-metre wide, steeply dipping, flow-banded rhyolite dike cutting andesitic volcanic flows near the contact with a hornblende granodiorite stock hosts quartz veining with 30 to 40 per cent hematite occurring as clots, blebs and veinlets and a 5.0-metre wide zone of massive specular hematite.
In 2004, two grab samples (192934 and 192935) assayed 9.50 and 3.43 grams per tonne gold with 6.2 and 1.2 grams per tonne silver, whereas a nearby float sample (192656) of quartz stockworks with chalcopyrite assayed 0.377 per cent copper (Assessment Report 27633).
In 2005, an outcrop chip sample (64245) assayed 2.95 grams per tonne gold over 4 metres of massive specularite and quartz veining, whereas five float samples of quartz veining with specularite and/or hematite in monzonite and andesite hosts from the occurrence area yielded values from 2.73 to 38.70 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 28041).
In 2018, a subcrop sample (4334) of massive specularite breccia adjacent to a fine-grained silicified unit in outcrop, located approximately 400 metres to the southeast, assayed 0.51 gram per tonne gold, while a nearby float sample (4326) assayed 0.59 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 38272). Also at this time, a subcrop grab sample (4346) of limonite-jarosite–stained basalt hosting massive specularite and pyrite, located approximately 1.1 kilometres to the southeast, assayed 5.0 grams per tonne silver and 1.555 per cent copper, whereas a nearby float sample (4315) yielded 0.56 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 38272).
Work History
In 1981 and 1982, Golden Rule Resources Ltd. completed programs of geological mapping and geochemical (rock, silt and soil) sampling on the area as the QBX 1-12 claims.
In 1984, Newmont Exploration of Canada Ltd. completed a program geological mapping, geochemical (rock, silt and soil) sampling and ground magnetic and electromagnetic surveys on the area as the Lynx 1-7 claims.
In 1986, Toodoggone Gold Inc. completed a 278 line-kilometre airborne electromagnetic and magnetic survey on the area as the Fisher 1-2 and Wolverine 1-2 claims.
During 2004 through 2006, Stealth Minerals Limited completed exploration programs of soil and rock geochemical sampling, prospecting and geological mapping on the Mac 1-9 claims as a part of its Toodoggone project.
In 2017, Sable Resources Ltd. completed a helicopter-borne geophysical survey over the Bot property that included radiometric, magnetic and ZTEM data.
In 2018, Talisker Resources Ltd. conducted prospecting of geophysical anomalies (identified in the 2017 survey) located on the northern half of the Bot property. A total of 148 rock, silt and talus samples were collected and submitted for assay.
