The Grid occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 1850 metres on a southwest-facing slope, north of the Mesilinka River and approximately 8 kilometres northeast of Aiken Lake.
Regionally, the area is underlain by volcaniclastic rocks of the Permian Lay Range Assemblage, fine clastic sedimentary rocks of the Upper Devonian to Permian Big Creek Group and ultramafic rocks of the Lower Jurassic Polaris Ultramafic Complex. To the southwest basaltic volcanic rocks of the Triassic to Jurassic Takla Group are exposed.
Locally, very fine-grained chalcopyrite occurs near the periphery of granitic rocks.
In 1987, a sample is reported to have yielded 0.111 per cent copper, 0.990 gram per tonne platinum and 0.174 gram per tonne palladium, whereas later sampling of the occurrence area is reported to have yielded values of up to 0.299 per cent copper, 0.301 gram per tonne platinum, 0.323 gram per tonne palladium and 0.145 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 35680).
Work History
The area has been historically explored in conjunction with the nearby Ridge (MINFILE 094C 164) occurrence and a complete regional exploration history can be found there.
In 1987, Lucana Mining Corporation conducted prospecting and geochemical sampling the area as the Lay claims.
In 2007, 2014 and 2015, U. Mowat completed programs of prospecting and geochemical (rock and soil) sampling on the area as the Star property.
