The An occurrence lies approximately 3 kilometres southeast of Mount Kinney and 65 kilometres southeast of the town of Mackenzie, in the Liard Mining Division.
Regionally, the area is underlain by a series of folded and northwest-trending sedimentary rocks comprised of undivided sedimentary rocks of the Neoproterozoic Misinchinka Group and lower Cambrian Gog Group; middle Cambrian dolomitic carbonate rocks; quartzite and quartz arenite sedimentary rocks of the Lower Ordovician Monkman Quartzite; and limestone, marble and calcareous sedimentary rocks of the Lower Ordovician Chushina Formation.
This quartzite occurrence is probably part of the Cambrian Gog or upper Proterozoic Misinchinka Group. At least five holes have been drilled on the occurrence. Company information suggests there is a substantial tonnage of silica with the following analysis: 99.43 per cent silicon dioxide, 0.09 per cent ferric oxide, 0.08 per cent aluminum oxide, 0.011 per cent calcium oxide and 0.18 per cent loss on ignition (Property File – Ritchie, A.C. [1979]: Letter).
