Capsule Geology

The Loop Northeast occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 1820 metres on the east side of a north-south–trending ridge, approximately 16.5 kilometres southeast of Old Hogem.

Regionally, the area is underlain by undivided volcanic rocks of the Lower Jurassic Twin Creek Formation and volcaniclastic rocks of the Upper Triassic Witch Lake Formation, both of the Takla Group, which have been intruded by Lower Jurassic monzodioritic to gabbroic intrusive rocks and Lower Cretaceous granitic intrusive rocks of the Hogem Plutonic Suite. A complete summary of regional geology and structure can be found in the Takla-Rainbow (MINFILE 093N 082) occurrence.

Locally, a weakly chlorite-altered hornblende crystal tuff hosts fractures with calcite and disseminated to blebby chalcopyrite. Minor malachite staining is also reported.

In 1986, gold, silver, and copper anomalies on the TRN grid, located north and northwest of the Loop Northeast occurrence, were outlined across the southern and eastern parts of the grid. Four float samples from the TRN grid yielded values from 0.259 to 0.944 per cent copper, 0.1 to 7.3 grams per tonne silver and 0.008 to 0.385 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 15319).

In 1987, a talus sample (TG-166-R) of malachite-stained andesite porphyry, located on the ridge immediately east of the occurrence, yielded 0.503 per cent copper and 4.6 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 16759).

In 1991, a grab sample (TR-91-R73) assayed 0.769 per cent copper, 13.4 grams per tonne silver and 0.09 gram per tonne gold, whereas a grab sample (TR-91-R70) of polylithic volcanic breccia fracture coatings and microveinlets of pyrite, located approximately 600 metres east of the previous sample, yielded 0.244 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 22372).

Also at this time, a rock sample (MPK-91-13) of hornblende basalt with weak malachite staining from a northeast-trending ridge located on the Plug 2 claim, approximately 3 kilometres to the northeast of the Loop Northeast occurrence, yielded 0.13 per cent copper (Assessment Report 22079).

Work History

The area has been explored in conjunction with the nearby Takla-Rainbow and Takla (MINFILE 093N 067) occurrences and a complete exploration history can be found there.
