Capsule Geology

The Sal showing is located 26 kilometres north of Hazelton, and four kilometres east of the mouth of Sediesh Creek.

Minor molybdenite and chalcopyrite mineralization has been found in a small porphyritic granodiorite plug of the Late Cretaceous Bulkley Intrusions. The granodiorite intrudes hornfelsed pyritic siltstones of the Middle Jurassic to Lower Cretaceous Bowser Lake Group.

In 2007, Paget described Sal mineralization as consisting of a swarm of quartz veins and aplite dykes centred on a contact between granodiorite and hornfelsed clastic sedimentary rocks. The granodiorite is flanked on both sides by hornfelsed sediments, suggesting a dyke-like body or elongate apophysis or cupola. The mineralized contact zone has been traced in outcrop and talus float over a horizontal distance of 335 metres, which is extended by the lowermost soil line to 450 metres, although this may be in part a function of downslope dispersion. Mineralization is locally associated with secondary biotite as vein envelopes and after primary igneous hornblende. Molybdenite values of up to 0.1055 per cent were obtained from character samples of granodiorite-hosted mineralization, while copper values up to 0.153 per cent were obtained from hornfels cut by pyritic stockworks (Assessment Report 29535). Precious metals are inconsequential, and veins with significant zinc, lead, arsenic and antimony were thought to possibly represent a late phase of the system.

WORK HISTORY

In 1970, Brettland Mines conducted prospecting and a geochemical soil and stream sediment survey over a portion of the Sal claims and document this new occurrence (Assessment Report 2828). A total of 255 soil samples were collected.

In 1997, Earl Sargent collected a total of 57 soil samples at 50 metre intervals on the Aaron claims in the Sal showing vicinity (Assessment Report 8162).

In 2007, Paget Moly Corporation conducted a work program focused on the Sal prospect which was part of its Laura property. The area previously identified as the Sal occurrence was mapped and 69 rock and soil samples were collected. Eighteen rock samples were collected from the Sal occurrence in order to define the character and potential of the zone. The samples types include selected grab samples from outcrop and float.

See Laura (093M 079) for further details.
