The Atna Silver occurrence is plotted (#298, on Map 69-1) as being located approximately 4 kilometres east of Shedin Peak and 80 kilometres north of Hazelton.
Regionally, the area is underlain by clastic sedimentary rocks of the Middle Jurassic to Upper Cretaceous Bowser Lake Group, which have been intruded by granodiorite of the Upper Cretaceous Bulkley Plutonic Suite. Hornfels and calc-silicate skarn is developed in the contact area of the intrusion.
Locally, a silver-lead-zinc showing is reported (#298, on Map 69-1).
The nearby Horne showing, located to the southwest of the plotted position of the Atna Silver occurrence, is described as a zone of granodiorite and/or diorite trending north-south across an east-trending ridge. The granodiorite is weakly gossanous and weakly mineralized with molybdenite and chalcopyrite in narrow quartz veins on the south side of the mountain and near its crest.
Work History
The area was covered by the Atna group of claims and was optioned by Canadian Superior Exploration Limited in 1967. The Atna property extended from the western end of Sicintine Lake to the eastern slope of Shedin Mountain. Also at this time, the area immediately southwest was being explored as the Horne showing on the Jan 18 claim. Trenching is reported to have been performed on the Horne showing at this time. Sampling of the trenches averaged 0.02 per cent molybdenum and 0.09 to 0.18 per cent copper (Property File - 812847).
In 2013 and 2014, Vale Exploration Canada Inc. completed a program of geological mapping, geochemical sampling and a 3278.0 line-kilometre airborne magnetic survey on the area as the S2 property. In 2017, an induced polarization and magnetotellurics survey was completed on the property.
In 2014, float samples (RX398018, RX399223 and RX399510) from the upper Shelagyote Creek (Horne showing) area, approximately 2 kilometres southwest of the plotted location of the Atna Silver occurrence, yielded up to 0.386 gram per tonne gold, 0.113 per cent copper and 0.011 per cent molybdenum (Assessment Report 35139).
