The area of the Rainbow 2NE showing is underlain basalt to andesite to rhyolite volcanic rocks of the Lower Jurassic Telkwa Formation, Hazelton Group. A stock of granodioritic quartz feldspar porphyry of the Late Cretaceous Bulkley Plutonic Suite intrudes to the west. The stock is known as the Sunsets stock.
Sample YR-15 is described as being taken from the same gossanous andesite zone where several other samples were taken 240 metres to the south (Map 1, Assessment Report 21765). This sample contained 2 to 3 per cent pyrite, 2 per cent magnetite and 1 per cent chalcopyrite as blebs and disseminations and assayed 0.064 gram per tonne gold, 11.1 grams per tonne silver and 0.32 per cent copper; samples taken in the gossan 240 metres south ran as high as 0.1 per cent copper (Assessment Report 21765).
An adit is marked as being 200 metres southwest of sample YR-15. It is reported to be 3 metres in length and was driven at the base of a gossan within intensely fractured, weakly silicified andesite to basalt. Spotty mineralization consisted of 8 per cent medium-grained anhedral pyrite and 1 per cent chalcopyrite and 5 per cent magnetite. Up to 2 per cent irregular anastomosing epidote-quartz veins that are 1 to 3 millimetres wide contain chalcopyrite in them or as fracture fillings. A sample (YR-28) taken assayed 0.084 gram per tonne gold, 9.7 grams per tonne silver and 0.27 per cent copper (Assessment Report 21765).
